I was thinking about the beloved George A Romero and how we might have never had this game mode without him. Looking at his works I saw this movie poster of his. Obviously is the same old fashioned Cymbal Monkey toy that is used as the foundation of the monkey bombs. This made me wonder what else in COD zombies is directly taken from Romero’s work. I haven’t put a dent in watching the movies he’s responsible for but obviously the creators of zombies were very familiar with his work as the whole genre of zombies across the board has built off of Romero’s movies over the years. Might do a follow up post looking more closely at his movies if I find anything that feels like a direct influence into the COD game mode besides just the zombies themselves. Hope you all enjoyed this random find!

Information: George A Romero is the godfather of the of the dead and is responsible for the progression of the modern zombie. The 2011 map Call of the Dead includes him as himself with the name being a direct play on Romero’s famous movie titles ending in some variation with Of The Dead. Passed away in 2017.
