so… developers aren’t responsible for ports and the resources diverted for said ports?
Donglemaetsro
It’s 100% dev fault. If they don’t want to support a platform, they’re free not to.

Root cause is consoles, fact. But reason is möney*
You should be glad it’s not 2006-2011~ You’ve never seen bloom until you’ve played a console port from 2008.

Its not exactly devs fault. Its MANAGEMENT!!! These companies with shitastic managers and corporate executives who micromanage the devs left and right on every detail and then put them on time constraints to meet deadlines cause investors want their ROI asap. Anthem and CyberPunk2077 were PERFECT examples of this bullshit! The games were NOT READY for launch and the devs themselves said its not ready as there were too many bugs and issues with the games and yet they forced them to release it to market. Thats the main problem here. The devs/studios are being forced to rush production and we get a shit product and it also doesnt help that theyre only allowed to use certain software due to contracts and licensing and etc this makes things even more difficult to work with. So stop blaming devs. This is what those execs want us to do is to direct blame towards devs and not them so they can use as reason to fire these hard working people and keep profits same time. This goes on a much deeper level than what popular media is telling everyone. BLAME MANAGEMENT AND CORPORATE EXECUTIVES!!!!

Devs ruin all. The one thing (along with price increase of games) both PC and Console players can agree one.

I definitely blame the devs.
Look what happens when you give a game to an experienced porting studio like Nixxes who actually bother to take the time to make sure that their ports are well-optimized. Clearly its possible to make solid ports, the problem is too many devs rush/half-ass it, or just don’t hire people who know how to do it well.
I’m relieved every time it’s announced a game I care about is being ported by Nixxes, because I know they’ll actually do a good job.

Arma Reforger, Ill blame consoles. But then again I understand the devs need to bring in more revenue and branch out to xbox.

How much of the issue for PC is with the crazy amount of hardware configurations that devs have to account for?
I don’t know a lot about development, but I can imagine that consoles are far easier because there’s no variation in hardware.
With the sheer amount of GPUs and CPUs on the market, each with their own specific drivers and limitations, I would think that it would be nearly impossible to develop a game that is perfectly optimized with the latest graphics and engine tech for every possible permutation available on the market, no?
ShirtsOff_Boys
Just think about it like this: if consoles didn’t exist, just PCs, would we run into as many optimization and UI problems as we do now? But also, devs choose to create for multiple platforms. So it’s both.

Why would the consoles be to blame at all?
Asleeper135
Neither, it’s the publishers. The devs aren’t given the time and resources they need to support things properly.

Consoles are practically underclocked 3700X and RX 6600 fused into single SOC. Blame developers. That been said I haven’t had any issues with 7900 XTX in any game, same applied for 6800 XT. So many hate threads about multiple games having performance issues and I’m like what performance issues where.

Horizon Forbidden West is a prime example of why the correct choice is the button on the right.

If they’d just do the right thing and get rid of consoles the problem would solve itself
