Hello FirefighterFull360, and thank you for your submission to Gaming PC! If you are new please check out our rules over at the wiki [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/gamingpc/wiki/rules)!
We have recently added the useful feature of Title Flair! You can set this manually by clicking Flair under your post once you have submitted your post, but if you missed it in the rules there is a much better way that will automatically flair your post!
To do this simply add what your post is about in brackets before your title. For example for a Build Log you can type [Build Log] before your post so that it looks like this; [Build Log]My new awesome build!, and the bot will automatically set your flair to Build Log! This works for Build Log, Build Showcase, News, Hardware News, Hardware Release, Discussion, and Miscellaneous!
Also remember that this is a place for discussing and sharing our love of Gaming Computers! This is NOT the place for help building or determining what parts you should buy, that is better suited for /r/buildapc. Troubleshooting questions should be directed to /r/techsupport. Thank you again!

This would be my first of I’m buying off a friend and I want to know if it is a good deal and I also plan on making upgrades to it later in the future

Its a decent foundation to build off of.

I’d take a hard pass on this one. It’s simply just too old.

$250 isn’t “horrible”, but the specs are pretty dated. I’d look for other options, personally. The GTX 1060 came out about 8 years ago. That specific model is the 3GB of VRAM model, and most modern AAA games need quite a bit more than that.
The CPU is a 2012 platform, which means it more than likely uses DDR3 ram, and 8GB of DDR3 in 2024 is just bad.
If you’re looking for a system to upgrade, this might not be the way to go. It does depend on how long you want it to last, and what games you plan to play. But an AM3 based system with DDR3 & a 1060 3GB is basically not worth your time, as you’ll more than likely need to part out everything, aside from the case, to make decent improvements. But I wasn’t into pc building until around the time the 1060 launched, so I’m not too familiar with the performance of DDR3/AM3.
If I was you, I’d look around FBMKT for a better deal, with at LEAST an AM4 base, so you can make a more modern build that will last you years to come. Hope this helps!

Well you’ll be spending $250 dollars for a paper weight because it’s pretty unusable

no shot. You’d need to replace pretty much everything and at that point just build from scratch. Use used parts if you want, but there are better ways to go about this and better platforms for upgrading. That’s a rough socket type and even the best cpus that fit that socket are pretty terrible and were considered so when they were new about 10-12 years ago. DDR3 and 8gbs at that is terrible. The 1060 3gb is not a great card. I have one lying around it’s already been passed to multiple people and replaced. It can’t handle most newish games. It struggles with apex low settings at 1080p which is kind of the bare minimum. No mention of an SSD, but even if there is one it’s likely very small. I’d hard pass my dude.
