
The Kar98k is without a doubt frustrating the player base with how widely used it has become in the Sniping Meta. But I’m confident that it isn’t the only problem.
Above are pictures of the damages and ranges for both Snipers and Marksman rifles. The first outlier is the Effective Damage Range for the SP-R 208, Lockwood MK2 and SA-B 50 vs the Kar98k.
What does this mean? Well means that it only takes 2 shots within 50 metres anywhere on the Upper torso (chest, arms shoulders, head) to down someone. Why the damage range is 5-6x the range of others in the category? 🤷♂️
Possibly it was meant to be placed within the Snipers category as it shares similar range stats to the 2nd page for Sniper.
So seeing the stats of the ones above vs the Kar98k, what direction should Sledgehammer go? Should they nerf the Kar98k or buff the others?
Well this is what I believe should happen:
– Increase the Effective damage range of the 3 bolt-action Marksman rifles on page 1 to 40-50 metres. Why? Because it can contend with the Kar98k and offer abit more diversity.
– Increase the Effective damage range for the bolt-action Sniper rifles to 50-60 metres. Why? Because they should outperform Marksman rifles at range.
– Lower the vertical recoil kick of the SA-B 50 and SP-X 50. Why? Because it’s ridiculously stupid to have them kick while weapons like the Kar98k re-centers with minimal vertical recoil kick.
– Fix the Kar98k Lower torso damage multiplier. I 90% believe it is bugged as you can down in the same amount of shots as you would if you hit the Upper torso and Head. This should be the case.
– Fix the jumping-crouch firing for the Kar98k. I’ve tried to do this in MP and for some reason you can’t even run, jump and shoot (no scope) when using the Kar98k or crouch shoot (when transitioning). Seems like a bug.
– Buff the Carrack .300. It’s criminal that the KVD, a Marksman rifle, outperforms a Sniper rifle.
– Fix the Explosive rounds on the Signal 80. Is is incapable of downing a player with Explosive rounds applied when the whole point of the Ammunition type was to allow players to 1-shot down players at the cost of Bullet Velocity.

For context about the weapons above. Weapons in order on the 1st page; SA-B 50 > Lockwood MK2 > SP-R 208 > Kar98k. 2nd page; SP-X 50 > LA-B 330 > Carrack .300 > KVD.
It’s only powerful cause the streamers want it to be. The other guns aren’t popular or have nostalgia surrounding them.
The problem with all of this is that the K98 is a nostalgia-based cash grab.
It’s a sniper rifle in the marksman rifle category, so it receives Rotational Aim Assist on controller. It re-centers faster than any other bolt action rifle and has nearly no vertical/visual recoil. It has a longer first damage range than any of the other one-shot guns when spec’d out, with a lower ADS time and a faster ADS walk speed than any of the rest of the one-shot guns.
You mentioned all of this, except the RAA. The RAA is 80% of the problem because it’s the only one-shot sniper that tracks for controller players, and controller players are MOST of the player base. They made the best gun in the game BY FAR and then gave it aim assist that no other one-shot sniper has.

Need to buff everything else. Kar 98 is in a great spot. Just need better AR’s and sure a second or third viable sniper but that’s just for variety
Marksmen riffles must not one shot you at any range ! The AA is so broken on them that it is ridiculous!!!
Bro the MK2 having a fucking range of 6 meters is absolutely criminal when in its past two previous iterations they were on par with the Kar98

It’d be better if the other Marksman Rifles were viable, and ARs were better at longer ranges.
Isn’t it one shot to the head but with a slightly lower bullet velocity in warzone?
