In Black Ops 4, Monty, alongside.. well, everything else; was banished to the Dark Aether.
And we never see him again, but it's never explained why?
Next to a few exceptions, he's one of the strongest entities we've met — he was an Archon for crying out loud! I don't see him being eaten by an Abomination.
The theory that he and the Shadowman merged back together into one, content being, isn't accurate; due to the Shadowman being destroyed alongside the Summoning Key.
I really hope we see him again someday. He doesn't have to resemble his previous self, could be an unrecognisable abomination; I just want closure.

We simply don’t know. Chances are he became a Dark Aether God and just is one we’ve haven’t seen. There is another race of beings in the dark aether that we haven’t been shown but teased in a vanguard loading screen that has tentacles, so that could be the Apothicons, (which are just Dark Aether Keepers) We won’t see him in the same state that he was though if he ever comes back. Although Monty was also corrupted a bit by the Dark Aether, enough time has passed to where he may be unrecognizable. The same goes for Victus and pretty much everything we’ve seen get put in the dark aether. For example, I’m pretty sure Abominations are Margwas that were in the dark aether so long that it got mutated and merged with other stuff in there and continually got copied, hence the zombie on its tail and being on all fours instead of having tentacle arms.
