The specialists were introduced in Black Ops 3 multiplayer but they’re completely unrelated to the story mode/campaign in Black Ops 3. We could’ve gotten a great story for them but instead we got a completely trash campaign with a mess of a story along with forgettable and uninteresting characters. If you play the campaign before playing multiplayer you’ll be presented with characters unrelated to the story but these characters still have bios and shit
In Black Ops 4, there is no campaign but there is a specialist HQ where we get to learn more about the characters and there is a small story to it but you don’t actually play through a story, you do training missions to unlock an incomplete story as well as audio files. Black Ops 4 could’ve had a great campaign about the specialists but it was scrapped for a battle royale because battle royales were popping off at the time. Blackout was a great game mode and I wish they could’ve just done a campaign and battle royale. These specialists are so interesting and there’s so much lore left unexplored. A full campaign with these specialists would’ve been so cool. The story starts off super interesting and gets to the point where you wanna know more, but you don’t get to find out because the campaign was scrapped and we’ll likely never see these guys again. I know a lot of people hate the specialists because they think they ruined the multiplayer mode but their stories are interesting enough to the point where I wanna know more. Maybe even also connect it with the first 2 Black Ops games
Instead of this, Black Ops 3 had a dogshit story mode entirely unrelated to the specialists and first 2 games, and Black Ops 4 gives us a little taste of what would’ve been the campaign that we never get. So we’re left here with a partial story that’ll probably never continue. I wanna know who Spectre is, I wanna know Outriders’ past, I wanna see more of the specialists together, I wanna see them actually have character arcs, I wanna know more about these characters and their relationships with each other. Now these characters getting the story that they deserve is nothing more than just an idea. Wasted potential
