This looks like a completely different tone than the reveal trailer from Sunday… Seems like this game has been through several variations since it started development.
Avlin_Starfall
Remember when demons were scary and looked different from each other and not just a cloak with lightning in it? Pepperidge Farm remembers.
HesPoppinOff
Had a chance to look through a lot of this when it dropped and thank fuck it doesn’t match what I saw in that cinematic. Still guarding my expectations on this one but feeling relieved that gameplay looks like a smoother DAI. Time will tell.
belledpurplecollar
Looks pretty good
dsmiles
I was hoping to see more of a return to the CRPG combat systems of DA:O. This looks simplified, closer to a “hack and slash” game than an RPG.
Hopefully the combat is deeper than it appears at first glance.

Not bianca.
WaqiWaqiWaaaqi
Why it’s feel for me like hogwarts legacy?
NewJalian
I wish they had demonstrated more abilities, inter-party comboing, and progression systems. The combat itself seems.. fine, if the rest of the systems are solid. I hope we can get more actions than just 3 with cooldown gates.
Le_Sadie
Why is Varric Blackwall now? :/
Kamakaziturtle
Was hoping to see it move closer to the CRPG roots, but looks like it it’s gone even more towards the action RPG direction than even it’s predesseors. Not super surprising considering Biowares been drifting that way for the last decade, but still kind of a bummer.
Still, looks alright. Art style meshes well and still looks like Dragon Age, the tone is thankfully much more what I’d expect and it’s good to have some confirmation that the tone in the other trailer was off and we are still getting what one would expect from Dragon Age. And the combat does look solid. All in all I’m cautiously optimistic.
cursedjunk
Ok I feel a bit better now.
MewinMoose
Bless the maker it looks good!
hoochymamma
Yeah, no…
Crater_Animator
Looks and feels like a Dragon Age game, don’t know what all these people complaining expected. Great graphical and performance update from it’s predecessor.
GladiusLegis
And this pretty much confirms my disinterest.
NFLCart
I don’t like the way the characters look…
raoufboussaid
Looks Really good , the dialogue with solas was bad tho ..
Tumblrrito
I miss when games didn’t shy away from grit and “groundedness.” When everything is a colorful spectacle, the world loses weight and immersion.
2Scribble
Should have led with this, if I’m honest
Like, if your grimdark fantasy series – well known for it’s character depth and adult themes – puts out a trailer trying to look like it’s attempting a riff on the Suicide Squad with the tone of an intro to a buddy cop film crossed with the jackass series – then ***something*** has gone wrong
The gameplay is at least *closer* to what you’d expect from Dragon Age – or at least Dragon Age Inquisition (for better and for worse)
And the ambient world they’re running through – while a bit more cell shaded than I’d like – is grim multiplied by dark to the power of hot topic 😛
So, it’s on point if nothing else
ffgod_zito
Couple thoughts here:
The city is like medieval Gotham city from Arkham knight lol
The gameplay looks way more arcadey and suicide squad kill the justice league than every other dragon age
BioWare used to be the biggest name in RPGs for a long time. the anticipation and hype for their games mad every release feel like a major event every time. Jade empire, KOTOR, mass effect, the first 2 dragon ages etc were all incredible with mass amounts of hype. This doesn’t feel like that anymore.
HyperMazino
# Not my Dragon Age.
Xenozip3371Alpha
Oh thank fuck, I thought this was going to be so much worse.
…so everyone can tell that whatever those things at the end were, they are gonna kill Solas right?
Meaning Solas would basically be reduced to a tease villain IF I’m right.
Loccyskillz
Well shit I’m going to have add this back on my list. It’s too many games coming out around the same time that I want.
UPDATE: I don’t understand why I’m being downvoted but okay.
PhDBaron
I don’t hate this. It’s more stylized than previous entries, but it’s not like Dragon Age was ever some bastion of realism in game design.
FaustusPrime
Are they going to introduce every new character with a giant nameplate like that? Or was it just for this gameplay? It feels so surreal man…
Firm_Scale4521
Bianca 😢
Shiva-Shivam
Combat is too mid and mediocre compared to many games today
Chilune
… at least the environment looks good. And that’s the only what’s good in trailer.
Goseki1
Only had time to watch a bit. is it all real time action? No pause and issue commands?
greencrusader13
Whomever was responsible for the cinematic reveal on Sunday needs to be lambasted, if not fired. Totally set the perception of the game off on the wrong foot. This is what should’ve been revealed first.
Fezrock
Seems… fine?
So long as the story is serviceable I’m still in. Third-person, fully voiced MC RPGs are my thing.
Fildok12
Tone and art design were the main concerns from the reveal trailer. I think tone concerns were assuaged but the art design definitely veered a long way toward the fortnight direction, ends up looking a bit like the Arcane TV series which isn’t bad just not as photorealistic as the previous games were going for.
Pen_dragons_pizza
The end of this year is rather stacked with big releases. Assassins creed, Star Wars, Indiana jones, avowed and this, not sure how some of them will do as a result.
Especially since cod is likely to be the biggest game of the year again.
Iggy_Slayer
I can’t believe how rough that looked. Not just visually, which it definitely did, but the combat was just mashing attack on enemies that largely seemed to not react to hits at all. The writing and choices seemed like typical bioware fare where you only get a few choices on a wheel and they’re largely just surface level things. Also the press confirmed you cannot switch to other party members only issue commands to them like mass effect so that’s a big step back for this series.
StarKnight29
I love Dragon Age and this looked really good but after Anthem and considering how the game has been through 2 resets I’m going to be waiting for the reviews on this first
novacolumbia
Looks fun to me. And I didn’t expect the same environment design from the first 3 games. The new city looks unique and interesting.
The pushing the wooden beam to drop the statue was a bit ehh.. but otherwise I’m excited to play.
CertainlyAmbivalent
Looks pretty rad. Though I was really hoping I could continue the story as my inquisitor.
King_Kvnt
This just looks… dumb.
_Didds_
Ok the gameplay is looking actually great, not perfect or anything close to it, but miles better than what I expected from the first trailer. World design looks interesting, combat looks fluid enough and characters fill like they kinda fit the ambience.
Still not sure about the voice acting work and some of the elements like the enemy attack telegraphs, but compared to what I was expecting from the trailer this at least makes me book it on my Steam wishlist for a post release deep dive.
Kaerran
The world feels more like Dragon age, but the combat… Holy shit it looks boring, spam auto attack and 2 or 3 spells. (even worse than in previous dragon age, and sadly very far from Dragon Age Origins)
colesyy
gameplay looked like booty but everything else seemed to be good ol bioware
templar54
Combat looks bland and generic honestly. Albeit I prefer this to inquisition. If we are not getting CRPG at least now it seems there will be a lot of dodging to do instead of just watching auto attacks and mashing buttons as soon as abilities are off the cooldown.
Dialogue though…I did not expect Baldurs gate 3 writing, but it feels like it was written to a 6 year old, every sentence is basically tell over show, everyone feels the dire need to state the obvious for some reason. Dialogue choices seem to make the return from previous games along with lines that do not even resemble what you chose, frankly at that point why even bother having options really. The option to tell Varric to talk to Solas or shoot him which is clearly presented as a choice with how options are positioned in the wheel plainly shows that both options lead to the exact same result, Varric will try to talk to Solas and fail, why even present it as a choice in the first place.
Overall nothing really surprising, it is the modern Bioware, long gone are the days of industry leading Bioware CRPGs.
D0GAMA1
I guess this is DA for the “modern audience”. Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s for me. it feels like it doesn’t have an identity of its own.
Jammer_Jim
People still call Witcher 3, an action RPG, the pinnacle of gaming. And the mere fact this is almost certainly an ARPG is apparently a deal-killer for some. I don’t get it. I mean sure, if you really wanted something more like BG3 or D:OS2 in playstyle then this is a disappointment but WTF were you expecting? Bioware has been in the ARPG space for a long time now. Jade Empire, anyone? I mean come on.
