    Sounds good, they have been good value and speed. But how will they do for gaming?

    Unless they publish the source code of the Linux drivers instead of a binary, it’s basically just a Chromebook competitor.

  3. Looking forward for a Qualcomm windows mini pc, with remote gaming nowadays, I can always build a streaming server and play self hosted remote games ( which I already do in my steam deck )

    More competition is always better than less, when im going to change my i5 11400f and Qualcomm will have good offer for me then why not, i dont care if it is ARM or x86 as long as it just works for me.

    What’s the upside, exactly? The low power consumption is nice, but they’ll run everything worse.

    This will just be another Chromebook.

    If it won’t be compatible with x86-64 applications, it’s useless. Otherwise, why not?

    The equivalent of a bad game’s review embargo being up six hours before launch. No real reviews of snapdragon X chips exist.They’ve also had Microsoft cripple Intel and AMD chips this year by disabling their “AI” features after making them spend silicon die space on NPU’s.

    Dumb ass armchair market analysts will like it I guess.

    I don’t really see an upside to a less powerful but more power efficient chip in a stationary desktop that is connected to a power supply at all times.

    Im actually kinda interested how Qualcomm SOCs will impact the PC Building community. The fun of building a PC is researching, buying, and assembling different parts of a PC. However Snapdragons are SOC which IIRC contains the CPU, GPU, and the memory. Kinda like the 3 major parts of PCs. Which would lessen the parts you need to a PSU, Motherboard, the SOC, and the extras like fans, case, etc.

    Do you think Qualcomm would even offer SOCs that can be used in a DIY Build? Or all Qualcomm PCs be only from System Integrators? Also how would that spell for upgradability? One of the main points of buying/building a Windows PC is the fact that you can upgrade it? Switching to SOC would eliminate that advantage. Agghhh SO many questions but I guess time will tell.

    but this is not apple, x86 won’t be replaced any time soon

    Might be an option for some people. If my phone had access to some desktop applications, I think I could probably just use my phone instead of my Laptop for work. Samsung DeX is already quite interesting for that. I wouldn’t buy whats essentially a phone in a Laptop form factor though. Especially when it’s the same price or more extensive with less features than my phone.

    I bet its not going to go on our gaming pc’s. Instead it’s going to go on laptops. Laptops can use an power efficient cpu to conserve battery life. Qualcom can’t compete with amd or Intel cause they make cpus for pc’s for years

    cringe for windows. it only works as well as it does for apple because apple has total control over everything and physically makes the hardware they put their OS on.

    windows and linux is too freeform and random with hardware and software to guarntee any real usefulness outside of tinkerers and is going to cause more headaches then its worth. it just seems like a nice way to justify more shittily built, less serviceable windows machines.

    ARM64, as an ISA, is a significant upgrade over X86_64. It also has a somewhat better license. So overall I see it as a decent way forward. I would prefer RISC-V though because that’s an open license.

    What does worry me though is Qualcomm and Microsoft are both notorious for locking out competition and I can definitely see this happening here. I wouldn’t be surprised if they deployed EEE, vendor lock-in and more. They are both companies with very poor track records regarding consumer friendliness.
