LOL, I wanna see this in an Earth Defence Force game.
“Help! The city is being overrun with giant [REDACTED]s!”

Jedi Survivor. Hilariously that setting doesn’t even really change anything. It affects ONE enemy that appears in 3 specific places on 1 planet and doesn’t even change it in a way that makes it any less scary (it’s the same creature, just slightly lower-res and they covered a pointy body part with a black box even though, given its location, it’s obvious what it is). I don’t understand why they even bothered.
ComeonmanPLS1
Makes sense considering you kill hundreds of spiders in this game.
HappyAlcohol-ic
Plot twist: not a single spider exists in the game.
ThePhyry22
In Lethal Company, if you turn arachnophobia mode on, the spider will just be replaced a by red “spider” text
KasaiAisu
Shadows over Loathing has an arachnophilia mode too which instead increases the number of spiders. I think there is also an option to add more spider sounds
TitlesSavingsandLoan
You should see the changes on Grounded and Satisfactory and their modes. Much different and way more manageable
TerpSpiceRice
I still find it.. strange(I don’t have a better word.) that we somewhat legitimized arachnophobia compared to some other phobias. I suppose it is an easy one to fix within games (like what would you do for phobias of heights? Or of certain patterns?), but even beyond games it’s always seemed like arachnophobia is more accepted than other similar things and I’m beyond curious of the history of how this all came to be ¯_(ツ)_/¯
TheRealOqueo
I’d love to have this in more games. Devs, please!
Uturuncu
Satisfactory implemented this in the funniest possible way, that legitimately made it worse for me on release. They have some spider-like enemies, and they just replaced the animated model with a static .png of a cat’s face that is always facing you regardless of what angle you’re looking at the creature from. It actually makes it harder to tell what/where the enemy is, and the initial implementation did *not* remove the freaky hissing/chittering spider noises. So having a static .png image of a cat’s face, hop up and get bigger, while making angry video game spider noises actually managed to be freakier than the dang spiders leaping at your face fully animated.
Apparently they did later change the noises to cute cat noises, but I was so mortified by the initial implementation in Early Access that I haven’t been able to bring myself to try out the updated version.

West of loathing has Arachnophilia mode. Turns all enemies *into* spiders lol
Significant_user
Wow I haven’t seen this in any games except grounded
TheNaturalHigh
Considering it’s Hogwarts Legacy, no it won’t be fun.
There’s an arachnophobia mode in satisfactory that turns them into kittens
Rly_Shadow
When they need features like this in gaming…
God the game industry has fallen so far.
Count_Dracula97
Grounded also has this mode, absolutely fire game
_Weyland_
Best arachnophobia mode I’ve ever seen is found in Satisfactory. It replaces model of arachnid/insect enemies with low-res cat PNGs that are somehow no less terrifying.
SunsetSesh
Nope! That setting alone is enough to request a refund. I refuse to deal with spiders both in real life and digitally.
Jhawk163
I want to a dev to put an option for arachnophobia mode right on first boot of the game, make a big show of it, and thenm never have a single spider in the game anyway.
Far_Detective2022
Ah yes, that game. The game with a title. The title that we all know just by looking at the fucking menu.
I’d love to see just one post about a game with the damn title of said game in the fucking post.
efyuar
They are doing the same thing in the new world of warcraft expansion turning all spiders into some other creatures
Razgrez11
I think Evil West had the same option.
Cooltincan
Then there’s Evil West where they will turn off spiders, which are just background creatures. If you happen to turn spiders back on though, every single surface will now be covered in spiders.
SirCris
Evil West had a bug where if you turned on arachnophobia mode then turned it off, it would multiply the spiders. So you could go from a dozen spiders to hundreds. Spiders were just environmental though.
Sabbathius
That’s discriminatory though. Arachnophobes get an Arachnophobia Mode. But what about Agoraphobia? Claustrophobia? Trypophobia? I mean, come on, what makes them so special?! /S
CaptainBlob
Fascinating how other humans have such fear of spiders that it’s become a rather popular option to implement in games.
Never have I had a second thought of seeing spiders in-game or in real life… but for some they’d rather die than interact with one…

Spiders! Why did it have to be spiders?!
The game *Satisfactory* has an Arachnophobia mode that turns all spiders into [static images of cats](https://i.imgur.com/qWaMy3L.jpeg), which, to be honest, is [equally as terrifying](https://i.imgur.com/Q4yqJGw.jpeg)
every game should have this setting, even if there are no spiders in the game
I see you’ve never played grounded then…
[Shadows over Loathing](https://store.steampowered.com/app/1939160/Shadows_Over_Loathing/) has Arachnophilia mode (adds spiders to every fight) and Arachnophonia mode (replaces all combat sounds with spider noises)
