I hated Turok 2 by the time I finished my replay. Games were just so different back then. Navigating to the next area was often a frustrating chore. You'd sometimes need to comb every inch of the entire level to find a hidden door disguised as a wall or something. I had so much more time and patience to figure things out back in the N64 days.

I also replayed the original red faction and hated that by the end. Getting one shotted through the walls by enemies with a rail gun and perfect aim made me scream at my tv.

Well, all I got is you’re straight up wrong about this one.
1 and 2 are all time classics, with about 95% and 90% positive scores on Steam, respectively. And considering those were released really recently… They hold up.

not really “nostagic” to me since i played it during my university years, but it’s Fallout 3 and Fallout New Vegas. i spent night after night grinding those two games on my brother’s laptop.

i have both titles along with their DLCs in my Steam account now. but i barely start playing despite having multiple locked endings.

    something definitely changed.

New Super Mario Bros. 2. I loved it when I was in like 3rd grade but it’s only a nostalgia bomb for me now, it doesn’t give me real satisfaction since it’s not a super good game.

Sly Cooper, as it was the most recent one i tried to replay.

I remember loving Sly 3 as a kid but turns out that stuffing a game full of minigames to try to add variety isn’t fun to me anymore, maybe it’s because i played too many games and this kind of filler content tends to get similar across every title (turret sections, quick time events, memory puzzles etc.)

At the same time i also replayed the Ratchet & Clank games and nope, those are still a blast, so it’s not a “growing old” thing either.

  5. Jumpman on the Commodore 64. Platformers have come a long, long, long way since then 🙂

They recently put all the Command & Conquer games up on sale on Steam, like a huge collection of them for like 20 bucks. I gave them all at least an hour each. Most of these games are bad and none of them are within a mile of RTS classics like Starcraft, Age of Empires, Warcraft, etc.

I find most of the old games I still like are almost all turn based. I finished The Legend of Dragoon and I had a lot of fun with it, all of the old Final Fantasy games hold up really well too.

Deus Ex…. Still a Great game but hard to play nowadays.
    Issues with graphics AND controls.

Played Perfect Dark nearly every day on the N64 as a kid. When it came out on the Xbox 360 Arcade I was so hyped to play it. Could not for the life of me understand how I was ever able to be decent at it as a kid.

Most games are best left in the past.

The few that hold up are truly something special but they’re rare.

Goldeneye does NOT hold up well at all.

Haha I was just trying jet force Gemini on rare replay cos it thought it’d be fun to play earlier. Loaded up in the zombie level and after getting to the next area I kinda sighed and closed it lol the controls were just hard to get used to again

Terminator Salvation on the Xbox 360. Didn’t even need to play it to realize I probably wouldn’t enjoy it. Despite being the first game I beat after watching a no commentary play through I realized how flat the gameplay is. Only a handful of weapons and most enemies require you hit them in certain spots that could easily get tedious over time.
