I’m not even a Dragon Age person, but Dreadwolf was a cool title. The Veilguard is an okay title.

Okay but why though?

What a terrible decision

Everything I’ve heard about it makes me think it’s going to suck.

“What are we? Some kind of veilguard?”

Just go with 4…

Anyone else think the word Veilguard looks stupid? All said, I’m excited for the game though (with low expectations).

I’d bet actual money they’ve done this to avoid it being called Dragon Age: Dreadful in reviews if it’s shit
Neravariine
Dreadwolf sounded cool and was lore relevant. Veilguard sounds like a generic moniker for the player character or new organization that’ll be explored.
LadyMaria129
I heard about the title change from Dreadwolf to The Veilguard. It seems like they’re going for a different vibe with the new name.

Dread wolf would have been better for marketing. It evokes thoughts of the Witcher.

The Veilguard, book two of the Dawnreaping series, written by F.C. Mormonton, whose previous titles include Gone Are the Ashes (The Fletcher King Quadrilogy), Stars Unbecome Us, The Lightscape Dreameries, and Everybody Poops 2.

This game still isn’t out?
Jfc they announced the next mass effect almost half a decade ago, neither of these are getting finished at this point

All the folks saying this sounds generic, when “dreadwolf” is generic enough to look like it could fit in with both an AC title and the 40k Space Wolves codex.

Works for me. Naming a game after its villain sets the focus on the villain. Naming a game after its heroes sets the focus on the heroes and, in this case, is somewhat more in line with the series’ themes.
Also, Dreadwolf really does sound like the generic sort of shit you can find in any bit of fantasy.

Dreadwolf was a way cooler title

Literally Unplayable

Considering that they won’t risk using the number 4, probably because they know the gameplay looks way more action-oriented than usual and, as such, it’s best to go the spin-off route name-wise, what are the chances that this game plays any good and doesn’t become another FF: Stranger of Paradise, a respectable attempt out the beaten path but too clunky and goofy to really win over the hearts of the old guard?
Zaynara
just… veilguard brings to mind some cut rate adventurers turned castle guard sorta thing, dreadwolf brings to mind this cool kickass massive killer godwolf trickster who is threatening reality, just… meh! change sucks, bring back the dreadwolf!

Awww yes… the “Lets do everything we can to reduce sales” marketing ploy. I see right through you Bioware.
brog5108
Only 7 companions? That seems less than ideal.
ZaDu25
Disappointing title to reflect how disappointing the game is likely to be. Hope I’m wrong but I have zero confidence in BioWare anymore.
LangyMD
Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a bad name. If they need to change the name from Dragon Age: Dreadwolf, they should rename it to something like Dragon Age: Veilguard. That way it actually fits with the previous titles.
It wasn’t Dragon Age: The Origin or The Awakening or The Inquisition and it shouldn’t be The Veilguard.
iambeingblair
Bad change. Dreadwolf sounds cool to anyone. Veilguard might have a lore meaning but could be anything.

Dragon Age: Quest for Money

Just in case you thought anyone competent still made decisions at Bioware after Anthem, they’re here to prove you wrong with one single announcement.

Maybe they’ll do the Pokemon thing and give us two versions of the same game with negligible differences

An eleventh hour name change on a game of this scale is never ever a good sign

Call it whatever they want, it’s gonna be shit.
From one generic compound word to another.
