But congratulations on your new ram stick.

Never heard of anyone replacing thermal pads on sticks of ram
ScottyArrgh
Why in the world would you attempt to remove the heat spreader?
Long gone are the days where RAM was sold as just the bare PCB, and aftermarket heat spreaders were held on with some double-sided tape.

I’m honestly impressed…… you don’t need to replace them but, if you’re going to anyway: hot air gun set BELLOW the melting point of solder, pry lightly, leave the whole stick in a bath of 99% isopropyl for an hour, remove goo.

Okay how did they rip off this cleanly? How much heat and force did you use!?

I’m not even sure why or how this would happen unless there are some trolls out there who manage to sucker people like this guy thinking this helps their pc performance.

If that shroud is metal and you have a heat gun you may be able to reflow them back on. Just put it back together and nuke it for no less than 4 minutes evenly around it. 4 mins sounds like a lot but that shroud will eat a ton of heat. Not a sure shot to work, especially if bga pads were ripped off, but if it’s trash otherwise might be worth a try.

I don’t see what’s wrong, you just doubled your RAM.
