Had an Alienware in 2012 as a Christmas present. It lasted 10 years, and thats only cause finding upgrades for an LGA-2011 socket was niche and expensive. It still worked fine though. Upgraded the SLI AMD 7770s? in 2018 to an Rx580 before i just built my current pc. Theres really nothing wrong with them aside from the price. I would never buy one myself. But as a gift it was totally fine.

I had an Alienware built a year or two before the Dell acquisition. Had a Klipsch 5.1 surround system on it and I wish I could tell you I dominated at counter strike.

They can be fine for people who just want to buy a PC like a console and use it until they buy a new PC. Whatever gets people into PC gaming is great and I refuse to gatekeep PC gaming at all. Everyone is welcome in whatever way they feel comfortable.

i bought a new alienware laptop in 2017, and used it religously until last year. its still works fine. no problems or complaints out of me.

I had bought a Dell XPS laptop right as they aquired Alienware. It would always crash and bluescreen, as a replacement, they sent me an Alienware laptop. It would run so hot it would burn your legs through jeans at the bottom and leave scorch marks on any fabric you put it on. It ran so hot over the next couple years all the keys on the keyboard started malforming and looking melty from the heat. It finally cooked itself, and the screen started acquiring more and more artifacts everyday, even with a plugged-in monitor, which meant the videocard was probably roasting. Amazingly enough, it would never shut down or crash because of the temperature.
It did run games fairly well, but because of how hot it ran, it had to be used as a desktop with all plugged in peripherals. The heat coming through the keyboard was so intense that your hands would start sweating. In retrospect it was a waste of 2500 dollars and I should have just bought or built a quality desktop because I was never able to use it for it’s intended purpose.
