Star Citizen is basically just the Chris Roberts patreon. Yeah, it doesn’t present like that, but people are paying because they like him and his old games and want to let him go hog wild making something new.

I am not a Boberts fan, but if Tim Caine said said he wanted to get the band back together and make a new Fallout game, I would pay 4 dollars per month until my death just to have hope.

Stop acting broke pledgers, get that number to a billion. Roberts needs that generational wealth.

I’m not even a star citizen player (never bought an account or pledged money). But I just don’t get why people just hate this so much. Sure the project has been in development forever, and yeah crowd funding does raise a few eyebrows. But they are completely open with their development process, they have clear ways for people to track development.

On top of that they have shown that they have built out some seriously impressive tech for video games, that will likely change the face of multiplayer gaming going into the future. Things like server meshing, the server replication layer (allowing for server recovery without being booted out of the game), and persistent entity streaming are legitimately incredible technical milestones.

Star Citizen is so popular it has not one, but TWO cults.

One cult that buys a bunch of ships costing hundreds of dollars

And another cult that spends literally all day complaining about the game, which includes people who had previously spent hundreds of dollars on ships.

  7. As ridiculous as it is, I do expect they will release something good eventually.

  8. steeler2323

At this point, they are clearly laundering money for some illegal activities… right?

  9. Shimmitar

i mean yeah they dont have everything they asked for yet, but they are getting a lot. SC is getting base building next year which im exited for

  10. FaustusPrime

They should do a Fortnite crossover and get more young people invested. Gotta keep that money train going!

  11. Ok-Use6303

Wait this game is still being developed?

  12. scene_missing

My coworkers alternate between worshipping this game and complaining about every little detail lol

  13. DShawn991

People are still gonna defend this scam. Star Citizen players are the same breed as Genshin Impact players.

  14. Stalkholm

What is Starcitizen even supposed to *be?*

Like, I’m still not fully clear. Is it a ship builder or a No Man’s Sky or a Starfield, like, are people zapping aliens or are they mining for jellybeans?

  15. undeadsasquatch

I love star citizen threads because it’s hilarious how people try to justify this as legitimate after, what, 10? 15? years now.

  16. Sitri_eu

man, back then when I backed with my apprentice salary I did not expect to get my game just right on time for my retirement. Hope those gaming rigs in the nursing homes are up to the task when I move in

  17. emotionaI_cabbage

Lmao OP you’re more obsessed with this game than the backers are.

Seriously, look at this guy’s post history. What a loser.

  18. BinaryDuck

Why this looks like money laundry at this point?

  19. KK-Chocobo

I wonder if they are just using this ‘game’ as an industry to keep the developers employed so they can get paid, have their German luxury cars and pay off their mortgages. And the suits at the top, their wallets fatter.

So why release the game and end all that?

  20. AgnewsHeadlessClone

Star citizen hate post time of month again?

  21. It’s funny because there are so many of us who have played this game for 5+ years and are still having fun with it. I remember buying games for full price like battlefield 2042 or whatever it was and playing it twice. Star Citizen is the gift that keeps on giving. So wild that people hate on it. Just the amount of input devices for this game is crazy. Game glass, Tobi eye tracker, joysticks. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen people fly their ships with pedals for a keyboard. I think I’ve spent a total of $150 on this game and I’ve spent hundreds of hours playing it + watching YouTube videos and following the community. Cheapest hobby for me per hour by far. Even if the game never came out, I personally feel like I’ve gotten my money’s worth.

  22. daveypoo143

Since I first heard of this game (2012?) I grew hair on my face and pubes on my balls, had people come and go in my life, completed school entirely, working a job that helped me get my first car, gonna get my first home soon and this game STILL isn’t done?

  23. If you’ve come to the comments for salt at least look at op’s post history, this dude is incredibly obsessed with the game and its employees.

  24. fahzbehn

Yeesh… and here all I need is $4000 to get my game off the ground (no, that is not a joke).

  25. locustzed

So the average cost of making a game is 20k to 5 mil. Meaning they are over the average by 140 times. The OTHER next expensive game is genshin impact which is on PS5, windows, and smart phone and has made billions of dollars.

  26. I remember a decade ago, when I were in college, a friend backed this game and was nerding out over it.

I think I might die before this game releases.

  27. BIGG_FRIGG

Literally uninstalled all of it yesterday to save space… there is no uninstall, you have to just straight up delete the files from the pc lol.

  28. 357-Magnum-CCW

“wouldn’t it be great if everyone just gave us constantly money?”

-Chris Roberts before inventing Star Citizen probably

  29. vIRL_Warlock

It’s kind of a pyramid scheme that caught up to them and they realized they had to do something. Now it’s a pyramid scheme desperately trying to fulfil some semblance of promises

  30. Bigred2989-

I have a 100gb digital paperweight on my hard drive. I rarely every play it now and a few days ago I tried and was stuck on a loading screen for 10 minutes, gave up and loaded up Cyberpunk instead.

  31. GroblyOverrated

Creeping into fraud and criminal liability here soon. Hope they have good lawyers.

  32. Visual-Educator8354

I mean, yeah, but at least they are actually developing a game that’s pretty sick, and delivering on promises.

  33. genethedancemachine

I forgot I backed this. Nostalgia got me.

  34. Die_Alchemisten

there they are, the Free Advertisment Articles and Posts to the new Number lol. ”the same procedure as every year James”

  35. Regardless of how much they’ve actually put into the game, regardless of the fact that it’s not just straight up vaporware, this is undeniably a scam. There’s no way they’ve put all the money people have donated to the project into the game. They are absolutely dragging this as long as they possibly can to milk as much money out of it as possible. As soon as the money stops coming in, they’ll finally announce a release date.
