So I ordered a 4080 super from Amazon and it arrived on Friday (I live in Ireland and it came from Amazon,Germany). Unfortunately I was away for the weekend when it arrived but my girlfriend received the parcel and left it on my desk so I could get home and open it myself when I was back( today is Sunday) . Anyway, I just had a very shocking revelation while unboxing the card. I got a little suspicious when the plastic sealing on the box looked a bit damaged..then the box itself had some marks on it so I got even more suspicious. I opened the box and yep, found two cd ROM drives, and a WD400 hard drive. I called Amazon and the agent said he is going to request a replacement on my behalf ASAP but I've never had anything like this happen before and it was a rather expensive part so I'm not sure what more I can do in this scenario to ensure I get a replacement without any issues or further hassle. Would appreciate any advice.

This is some hot ass. It’s in Amazon’s hands now, so just stay in contact until you know more. It’s tuff if Amazoid is like “well, why didn’t you send us anything over the weekend?” Your photos are time-stamped, so they could also be like “you took delivery and didn’t open it for how long?” I’m sure it won’t be an issue.

  2. Cant do anything but let Amazon deal with it. If they can’t they will just refund you.

Looks like you got a take and repeack. Amazon is very notorious for NOT checking these things. And we damn well know they can trace who purchased this returned item first, but they won’t. However, if it wasn’t sold BUY amazon and if was some other seller, make sure you black list them.

I haven’t had this happen to me personally but happened to a friend of mine when I built him his computer.

When he contacted Amazon they gave him a return shipping label for the incorrect product and shipped a replacement, which he received the next day.

This happens a lot apparently and is annoying, but Amazon should fix it with little pushback.

  5. The same thing happened to me! But opposite, I ordered 2 old cd rom drives and a wd400 hard drive but got a fucking rtx 4080 in the box

    Amazon are the worst

PCMR seems to have this huge hate on for Amazon and these issues. I’m not saying this doesn’t happen but with so many customers and worry free returns, why wouldn’t it happen? The key is how they deal with it and from what I understand, most of the time they resolve it quickly, don’t they?

  7. From what I’ve seen here, Amazon is pretty good at making people whole if they’ve been scammed.

  8. SignalGladYoung

was this sold and shipped by amazon or private seller on amazon. check the name of seller.

  9. awake283

Amazon’s been pretty decent with returns in my experience. What they are not decent at, is vetting sellers on their platform.

  10. External_Try_7923

Send it back and note in the reason that they should check the return history on this item and deal with the person who returned the item last and scammed them. I doubt they will. But it provides some credibility on your end that it was received this way. They should have to go verify it was returned at least once before. Essentially tell them to do their damned job as a retailer. It’s their fault for sending a previously returned item out that was obviously not checked and not sellable.

Was Amazon the seller, or was it third party? If it was Amazon, they’re *usually* pretty good about refunds/replacements. If it was a third party, you’re SOL.

I hate that for you and hope Amazon will refund you or replace your stuff, but the yellowed disc drive made me lmao.

  13. SuperSoker5

This was an eager employee who stole the real item not the company.

  14. You’ll be fine because it’s Amazon. In the future or especially if you’re buying from a random person, always film opening the package with a completely uncut video (no pause, no putting the camera down or moving things for even a second). This goes infinitely more for selling stuff as most payment things like PayPal side with the customer by default.

This will either entirely save your ass or at least a ton of time on going back and forth and needing to be escalated and such.

Sorry that it happened to you, but glad that it wasn’t from a less customer service oriented vendor. It’s is unfortunately incredibly common to scam high value items this way. It can be done in ways that are way less obvious too, like replacing a CPU cover, or flashing a different bios to a gpu. Stuff that a warehouse employee will never know even if they give it a more than reasonable overlook.

just report it theyll get you the right shit. amazon is having a big issue rn with people making returns with other products in the packaging they dont check the returns very well before sending it to the next customer.

Rule #1 when shopping on Amazon…

Ships and Sold by Amazon; is your friend.

  17. 420headshotsniper69

So many stories like this, I won’t be buying high end stuff from Amazon any time soon.

  18. DeathinabottleX

Likely a return where the original buyer kept the card and put that optical drive in there instead.

  19. PhatManSNICK

Amazon is amazing for returns but always stick to youur guns.

  20. Actual-Donkey-1066

How do we know you aren’t the scammer? Why does Reddit automatically rally around people that post shit like this? Most likely the people posting this are the scammers.

  21. You already contacted Amazon and they are sending you another one, what else do you want?

They didn’t scam you, someone bought and returned but kept the card, happens all the time.

  22. Elquenotienetacos

I had a situation where Amazon literally sent me an empty box, like it didn’t even have the graphics card box in it, just an empty cardboard box with polystyrene bits.

I won’t lie, it was an absolute nightmare to get my money back, it took me 3 months of calling and getting hung up on. I had to file police reports several times etc. I hope you have a better experience

Amazon latin America customer service is a gigantic piece of shit I hope they see this.

  23. Bob_The_Bandit

You return it. Amazon is great with returns.

  24. sausagepurveyer

Amazon themselves did not scam you.

  25. not_likely_today

use these pictures put in a claim that you got a open box without the card. They will ship you a new one

  26. tankie_brainlet

This happened to me a while back. I ordered a $200 wifi router, and the vendor shipped me a laundry bag. Report it to Amazon right away. They will take care of the issue and refund your money.

    Edit: include these pictures

  27. jdfthetech

my recommendation whenever opening anything of serious value: use a camera or your phone to record yourself opening the package. This way if there is a question of you trying to scam, you have the video proving the unboxing.

  28. sam_town

What’s stopping someone from taking out the gpu keeping it for yourself and filling the box with junk and taking pictures of that to make it seem like you got scammed ?

  29. Cultural_Parfait7866

I’ve always heard Amazon is actually really good on correcting this stuff without giving you any hassle

  30. JPackers0427

If I’d ever buy any pc part on Amazon, I’d record as I open it in case it’s been replaced with something and that way it’s recorded and skip all the bs Amazon would try and come up with.

  31. Snorkle25

Technically someone else scammed Amazon by buying the gpu first, taking it out and swapping it for e-waste and then doing a return for refund. You shouldn’t have any issues getting a proper replacement through their customer support. It sucks but is really just an inconvenience.

  32. NickosSB

Open a ticket at Amazon. Ofc if it’s sold and/or fulfilled by it

  33. KoldDrank

Sending you the hdd was and not just a empty box was just disrespectful 😂

  34. frogmicky

Install that DVD burner and upgrade your storage of course.

Once you’re finished installing your new gear get on the phone with Amazon customer service then call your bank depending on what Amazon says.

  35. You’ll probably have to file a police report and go through their support.

  36. thehype559

Idk how it works in your country but im in the US and i stick to items sold & shipped by Amazon cuz its as easy as sending it back and ordering a replacement. I just returned a few things yesterday (some case fans, gpu bracket, and fan hub) that i used for about 2 weeks and i changed my mind on. Opted for the Amazon gift card refund since iwas going to order more stuff and I had my refund ready to use like within 3-4 hours after I dropped the items off at ups

  37. Brutalix

Amazon has been incredible at fixing issues whenever I’ve dealt with them. Hopefully the same for you!

  38. notbernie2020

You weren’t scammed by Amazon, Amazon was scammed and you were collateral damage.

  39. Return it. Amazon is pretty good about refunding basically everything.
