This. Is. Dumb. Y’all are being sectarian and silly. Just use what you like and let others do the same.

The types of comments that go something like “I used *X* and had *Y* experience, therefore others are lying” are the ones that always bug me.

I think the way to put it is to just use the one that pisses you off the least, they both have unique problems that you’re gonna have to deal. Personally, I find Linux less frustrating as it breaks a lot more than Windows but when it breaks the issues are usually easy to fix. When Windows breaks there is a solid chance that you’re fucked and will have to do a system reset.

I mean… I’m a Windows user, never used Linux much… and I think the “Linux users” have a point there. The BSOD and random errors happen SO FUCKING OFTEN. For no good reason whatsoever.

That combined with the recent bullshit Microsoft is pulling. Fuck Windows, seriously.

The little time I’ve spent using Linux (Ubuntu and Lubuntu) has made me realize I absolutely hate the Ubuntu UI, I think there are many inconveniences… but I’m reaching the point where I’d rather have all of that than fight Microsoft’s anti-customer practices.

The only thing keeping me with Windows is gaming at this point.

Just let people use whatever they are comfortable using.
“Just use Linux”, When half of the apps i use need to bre switched to alternative ones, it isnt a solution.
Same as Microsoft shitting every good thing in windows

I think typing y’all is worse than any sectarianism

I would LOVE to switch to Linux and firefox. But I need chrome and windows for work and for games (chrome, not so much for games).

I need my softwares that only work on windows or mac, and I need connection to devices that has a web gui that works best on chrome. I started my work computer with Firefox, it was good, but accessing those devices and chaning the settings that I always do just did not get applied on Firefox. Chrome had no issues.

Also integrating my Google Ecosystem to Firefox is not as seamless. I do fight against a lot of companies, but sometimes I just want convenience.

My computer does behave blue screen to blue screen on Windows cause I purpose built it to run better on Linux, so it isn’t a lie for me

  10. I use both. Windows for home PC and Linux for work. They both have pros and cons and work better at different use cases. Just use whatever OS you like.

  11. ThisIsNotMyPornVideo

Both have their ups and down.

The biggest issue with Linux is definitely it’s userbase tho, in theory Linux REALLY isn’t that difficult to get set up and use.
But when people talk about it, especially on Reddit on Twitter, they make it seem like they are the biggest Hackers in the world, so people instantly get discouraged and just stick to windows

I’ve got Windows as my daily driver for gaming and stuff.

    Macbook for work

Linux servers running my home automation, network storage and the likes.

They all perform exactly the way I need them to perform.

In terms of ‘problems’ I’ve had… The linux box gave me the most issues (drivers mainly, but I did a lot of custom stuff, so it’s mostly my fault), followed by Windows just being windows and the macbook rarely gave me any issues (except for compatibility cases where certain CLI tools require to run under rosetta)

I’m a windows user and the bottom one is 100% me.

You missed the part where someone on a forum says “Type XYD into terminal and that will fix it” and then when you do it doesnt work.

  14. fuzzytomatohead

I use both on separate machines, but I’m leaving Windows the second 10 hits EOL. It’s not a matter of stability, more that the “features” announced for 11, like Recall, or Copilot and AI being shoved up my ass so much isn’t what I want.

  15. ma_er233

Well at least Linux is free (most of the times). Windows is paid yet still has ads in it.

Funny thing, last picture shows grub trying to boot a corrupted msdos or maybe even windows install… could be a hardware problem or a fuckup from ms…

I like using Linux, over the years I’ve shifted more and more of my work flow to Linux.

I was using Ubuntu 22.04 and yesterday I tried upgrading to 24.04. The upgrade, for which there is no option in the GUI, completely broke everything on my PC. I ran just a couple of commands as written on multiple websites. And yet, at the end of it, which took around 5 hours mind you, my PC had stopped booting. Worse still, even a fresh installation of Ubuntu 24.04 wouldn’t start from a pen drive.

I know the Linux community is going to blame me saying I must have done something wrong, but it’s 2024. Upgrading the OS should be a simple click of a button. It shouldn’t have any scope for things to go wrong, and that too in such royally fucked up fashion.

Right now I’m creating a fresh boot drive with Kubuntu, hoping this will work better than Ubuntu.

This has never happened in 20 years of using Windows, upgrading the OS version has never rendered my PC unusable. So yeah, Linux is still far behind Windows, no matter what people claim.

Now maybe if those people focused on addressing the basic issues rather than creating a new distro every week, we might get somewhere. We don’t need a 100 different distros, 95 of which are basically glorified skins for Ubuntu. We need one distro which works on all modern PCs.

Edit: Kubuntu also refused to boot. Going to roll back to 22.04 now and try. If that doesn’t work, then it’s bye bye Linux for me..

Yeah, can we finally all band together in peace and collectively shit on OS X instead.
