I had to look up who this studio was and in their 20 year history they haven’t made a single thing of note, in fact in the past 5 years they have literally done nothing.

I’m surprised this didn’t happen sooner and don’t understand why they would shut down Studio Japan before this.

I’m sure they peaked at PS2 or PS3 and I wonder how they stuck around this long

The interesting part of this studio closure is that Sony closed the studio down only days after Jim Ryan visited them in London and took a photo with them all. They didn’t know Sony was about to lay them off and shut it all down, it became official just days after.

  4. Sucks they were stuck making niche games for Sonys shitty gimmicks like the EyeToy. Pretty much set up for failure at that point.

London Studio was established in 2002 following the merger of Psygnosis’s Camden studio and Team Soho, the developer behind The Getaway.

Psygnosis – 1984 (Studio Liverpool from 1999) was best known for franchises such as Lemmings, Wipeout, Formula One, and Colony Wars.

Such a shame to see a decent studio get bought and dismantled to the point people forgot the great games they made. Wipeout was easily my favourite franchise.

  6. Blood&Truth still is one of my dearest VR memories.

Xbox shuts down studio: Phill Spencer is literally Hitler.

Sony shuts down studio: well they had it coming

    Reddit is fair as usual

  8. Honestly surprised they’ve been around for so long as well.

It’s wild to me they lasted longer then Sony’s own Japan Studios that got absorbed by the team behind Astrobot.

I wonder what they were even doing these past 15 or so years.

PlayStation London Studio, created in 2002 following the merger of Psygnosis’s Camden studio and The Getaway developer Team Soho, is perhaps best-known for developing the SingStar series and working on experiences for PlayStation peripherals such as the EyeToy camera and the PlayStation VR headset.

    the singstar series? what?

    eyetoy?

and a decent VR headset that took a monumental amount of funding.

Not surprised they got shuttered. Video games are a bloated industry and I think a culling of inefficient and unsuccessful teams is necessary to keep games below that $70 mark

Everyone shitting on the Eyetoy and im sitting here wondering if I just missed the bad games because the ones I had made my 7yo brain explode

Doubt people even remember Sony closed them down.

It’s a shame Microsoft has closed yet another studio. Why would they do this?

  13. First it was psygnosis, now this….

Great studios close not due to be profitable but to maximise profits. There’s a distinction.

Still sad to see it happen again in a way.
