Satya Nadella says Windows PCs will have a photographic memory feature called Recall that will remember and understand everything you do on your computer by taking constant screenshots, seems a bit concerning personally not happy with this feature, hoping it’s optional.

If only there were some way to store data directly. Maybe it could be written on temporary volatile memory or some kind of longer-lasting “hard” drive. Maybe both. /s
Taking constant screenshots is not useful for the regular customer. This is obviously a play to get immense amounts of training data for some kind of graphics-based AI program. This also creates the mother of all treasure troves for hackers and weirdos. If your computer were taking screenshots of everything you do, any personal data that flies across your screen could be compromised if/when someone gets access to the pictures.

I’ll like to explain some of the concerns people have, no I’m no microsoft representative, & yes, I’m also fed up with their AI garbage but credit has to be given when due:
-No, it’s not mandatory & you can opt out of it by going into settings -> privacy -> Recall & toggle it off.
-for those concerned about “how does it know what to not see”, so basically you add a blacklist of apps & websites (on “supported browsers” & you betchya that it’s only gonna work with edge for a while) you don’t want them to be ss, if it tries to take a ss & it sees the app is opened, it stops.
-No, it is not an online-needy feature, it runs locally on the device utilizing the NPU, which is a brand new AI chip in new laptops, no Microsoft spying, no onedrive integration, non of that nonesense.
-No, it isn’t *that* performance hungry on laptops & devices that have an NPU, idk about those who don’t.
In a nutshell, y’all are kinda overreacting too much & it really isn’t that bad, I’m more worried about copilot tho
