  2. Ou maaaan! This is more hard as Souls Collection

try playing on a bootleg copy where save game doesn’t work. this was my first unintentional roguelike where a run lasted for days as the game was kept minimized throughout.

Still bloody hard to be fair. The relatively recent Desperados game scratches that same itch.

Leave it to me! Oim comin

So good. I used to use “I beat Commandos Behind Enemies Lines” as a pickup line back in my single days.

The only thing I ever heard after using it was “I’m coming!”

  6. Deesanten

I beat it and the expansion recently because as I kid I couldn’t. Felt great! Worth it.

A bit unrelated, but this image includes some of my favorite childhood memories:
    – PC CD ROM
    – EIDOS
    – $old Out Software

Also something interesting is that Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun (2016) and Desperados 3 (2020), which were both made by Mimimi Games, have come back into the spotlight this genre of top down realtime squad stealth and absolutely worth trying out if you were a fan of the original Commandos series.

Anyone wanting to play a modern game from this genre should absolutely play Shadow Gambit: The Cursed Crew.

Oh man.. Sold Out Software! I collected so many PC games from that publisher in the early 2000s. Was hard not to with that £4.99 price point! I think the original Deus Ex from them was one of the first I bought. I definitely remember having this, the first Commandos game too. Played it to death but I don’t think I ever fully beat it.. some of the later missions were hard as nails

This got me though so many boring days in the data center at work

I loved this game as a kid. I had a demo disk that came with tomb raider 4. Used to play the demo for hours.

Idk why but till this day I remember the “music” behind the stages.

This game made me slam my head to the desk when I was a kid trying to figure out what to do… But was so daaaamn good.

Oh and I’m excited for Commandos Origins!

A retailer I knew used to call them “So-lo” software – as in “so low” he couldn’t make a profit.

Sold Out was how I got into Heroes 3.

    Back in 1998….

i used to download game demos from gamespot.com and this was one of them.

So many games where I replayed the first level over and over. This, thief, carnivores, driver, delta force, rainbow six…

    The list goes on.

  17. Robber_Tell

  18. Jasonxhx

Should definitely check out Shadow Gambit the Cursed Crew, Shadow Tactics, and Desperados III also!

  19. MrKapkan

Favorite game of my childhood! Loved Partisans on Steam because it took me back to those days

  20. Yes, one of the fondest memories. So excited for the new one.

Same here when I was a kid I got so mad at the game I did not even finish the game. But then as an adult I had gone back to the game and beat it.

  22. Lots of my mom pocket change was used to play this at the local library! Loved it so much.

  23. This was one of the first games I got for Christmas back when my mom got us a pc for Christmas in -98.
She wouldn’t let me get or play violent games as I was 12 at the time but she made an exception for commandos: behind enemy lines.

The reason for her allowing this game was simply because you only kill nazis. Fond memories.
