Story: I got a Ryzen 5 5600X one year ago and I used a tube of Arctic Silver 5 I had home from some years ago.
Last days my computer temp rised a lot so I tried to figure out what was happening.
Well, never seen something like this all my life long! Has anyone of you experienced this sorta caramel looking thermal compound before? Can you help me to figure out what occurred?

No, but it looks like the compounds mixed together and dissolved some part of the ihs though
Old thermal paste with separating compound. The oils leech out and discolor, often why old paste tends to turn brown.

i think your first mistake was using old paste, second mistake was using arctic silver. spend a lil more and youll get better results my man!

MX-5 was just not very good. Arctic MX-4 or MX-6 are my go to thermal paste from Arctic. Next time just pretend MX-5 doesnt exist and order something else.

I had that happen to me a couple of years ago with a Corsair AIO.
That is caused by a leak from around the edge of the heat-plate on the pump.

If you don’t have an AIO…. That’s what thermal paste does when it becomes waterlogged and has time to oxidise.
The only thing I can think of is plastic on the cooler but idk.

Looks like you put a slice of pickle in between the CPU and the cooler and then left it to marinate for a year or two.
