Just upgraded from RTX 2060 super (windforce oc 8GB) to 3060 (windoforce oc, 12 GB), both from gigabyte
But what I was surprised is that 3060 is actually significantly shorter , both takes 2 slots
(After 5 yrs, 2060 super went to the silicon heaven, RIP)

Both are nice cards, if it was the best in your budget then you did well! Enjoy

Same performance :

Yeah, the performance jump between the 2000 series and the 3000 series is primarily in efficiency rather than raw FPS. So the 3060 is a much smaller, much more efficient card, while delivering better performance than its larger, more power-intensive predecessor.
The 3060 is adequate for average desktop use and light to moderately demanding gaming at 1080p, so if this fits your use case scenario then it’s perfect. I have one in one of my systems for this purpose and it works very well.
The RTX 2060 was right in the middle of the first wave of stupidly oversized coolers. With Nvidia locking down BIOS, everyone’s RTX 2060 was the same, so all the board manufacturers could differentiate on was the cooler and, in some cases, the maximum power limit.
The RTX 2060 Windforce OC had a maximum power limit of just 200 watts (default TDP was 160 watts).
The RTX 3060 was actually higher power: 170 watts default and 212 watts maximum!
OCing Turing, Ampere and Ada is done by slamming power up as high as it will possibly go, they’re all power limited, so the highest maximum power is the highest attainable performance for a given SKU. My RTX 2070 (Gigabyte Windforce 3X) has a default of 175 watts and max of 200. I’ve cross-flashed it to a 240 watt BIOS and now it can reach clocks where it outperforms an RTX 2070 Super, if marginally.
Is the 3060 card the 8gb or 12gb of vram op? I have the 12gb version and it is chugging along pretty well in games.
What signs did the 2060s GPU have that it was dying/dead

1030 3gb to 1080ti 🙂
The 3060 has a good personality though
You could’ve at least tried to get an upgrade OP, not a sidegrade.
I retired my 2060 super and got a 4060ti 16gb card. The 2060 was a decent miner for a long time.
