6 years have passed and I still can’t afford a GPU capable of handling ray tracing, maybe that’s why
Just7Pixel
i have to say raytracing is just not worth the performance hit…
get like 160+fps in a game, turn on raytracing and just ~70fps are left
and somtimes the visuls are looking worse, its to bright or way to dark, just not what i want while playing a game
yes it look great for screenshots but that is it, i don’t think anyone wants to play with less fps for bit better refections and lighting, just no
Few-Baseball-86
I use it for games that are actually optimized, but games like P3R that just throw it in, it’s not worth it.
itsbutterrs
this is bound to rustle some feathers, incoming my 1080 is more than enough to get 60fps at 1080p…🤣😂
randomdreamykid
I do choose medium-high+rt over ultra+no rt tbh
SquirrelizedReddit
Raytracing truly is awful in my opinion, and I have used it, it looks more annoying than it does anything else and it’s certainly not worth the massive performance penalty.
potatoesarecool77
RT is still not very mature as a technology. Very few games utilize it properly, and in most games where it is an option, it mostly just tanks the fps without giving much in return. Also the hardware requirements to run RT well are still not within reach for many people, so it’s easy to see why people hate it when they can’t use it on their otherwise capable PCs.
In the games it is correctly implemented, it can be gorgeous though.
RentonZero
I like it in cyberpunk but haven’t played another game where the graphical increase is worth the hit to FPS. I often find most games tank FPS for the most basic reflections, it’s wild how well it’s implemented into cyberpunk when you compare it to something like guardians of the galaxy or persona 3
Known-Pop-8355
Ray tracing is amazing but theres some problems.
alot of devs or studios dont know how to properly utilize it correctly or optimize it since RT is still new.
The development engines they’re only allowed and licensed to use either dont have a support for RT or its RT options and etc is crappy asf or theres no plugins for said engine. (This is why Unreal Engine is VERY popular right now. Even Rockstar’s Rage Engine cant hold a candle to it!)
Lastly not everyone’s devices can support RT. Some gamers still have older hardware that doesnt have RT capability nvm low VRAM.
alienassasin3
I use it on a handful of games, but I’m running AMD hardware on Linux, so I generally just don’t try.
Hitman 3 and Cyberpunk have worked well for me but I’ve had pretty bad performance on Deathloop
skaad666
Rt is not worth it
I have 4080.
InTheBoxDev
Honestly Minecraft look great with ray tracing.
abrahamlincoln20
Been playing a bit of Cyberpunk with overdrive raytracing (or whatever it was called, psycho?) and I’m seriously underwhelmed by it. I don’t like the blurriness it adds. Metro exodus did it better.
Blunt552
Well I hate RT and used it, frankly reshade looks far better while retaining far more of your FPS. Also games with proper rasterization that arent just thrown out to cashgrab look as good wirhout RT vs “RT ENABLED SUPER RESOLUTION GAME OF D00M”, evidence being: Shadow of the Tomb Raider.
RT is only another worthless excuse to make devs more lazy and make games way more demanding that they had to be. Anything NVIDIA has thrown out has made the gaming industry worse, since the introduction of DLSS and RT, the games have become significantly more demanding for no reason.
People claiming games that don’t look better with RT, argue that the ‘implementation’ isn’t good enough, not only do not understand how RT works but are also completely oblivious about the fact that devs who created those games actually gave a damn about their lightning.

I have rt on as long as im over ~45fps
RAMChYLD
Chill dude. I don’t like raytracing either. Feel like it’s a gimmick by NVidia to make people buy their RM10000-15000 cards and I also don’t like how people who own those cards act like they’re all high and mighty to people with AMD and Intel cards.
tikisha
I only tested ray tracing with Minecraft and ngl it looks gorgeous, but not worth the performance loss for me (2080), maybe in the future
maiwson
I’m still pretty sure that most people wouldn’t see a difference if shown two scenes from a game with RT on and off without any further information.
Until now there’s only one game that actually visually improved with that feature and that’s Cyberpunk with path tracing and quality DLSS – and you need at least a 4070TiS for that on 1440P+ to get a stable 60fps.
ThisIsNotMyPornVideo
You Don’t have to have used to dislike it.
You know what it looks like from videos, and you know just as well that it’s gonna drop your FPS by half, if not worse.
it’s simply not in a space where it’s worth it for regular gameplay, unless it’s heavily optimized and/or you play with a 4090
MassiveCantaloupe34
Well , i can use raytracing. But often prefer using re-shade + HDR mod as mostly it looks better without tanking the fps.
MrPechivko
I can use RT from time to time in Cyberpunk, not sure if my RX6700XT likes it, but it gets it done anyway╮(^▽^)╭
Zealousideal_Mix5043
It’s cool, but not worth the extra $300 for a otherwise identical card.
adotador
I like raytracing but people talk about it like it is a huge thing and you should absolutely get a card that can ray trace or your game will look ass and you arent really gaming. But the visual improvements really are stunning coming from someone whos gpu can barely raytrace (metro exodus enhanced edition is a masterpiece even at 40-50fps).
Alpha_Knugen
I dont hate raytracing but i dont care about it either.
I have used it a bit in minecraft and in autodesk inventor. In most games if not all i would rather have high fps instead of the insanly cool and not overrated raytracing.
Most games i play dont have raytracing anyways and most new games run like shit nowadays so raytracing would probably make it unplayable.
BlendedBaconSyrup
I used to hate RT back when it was new. The delay was just wayyyy too disgusting. It was like vsync but tenfold. And it would overheat like crazy and destroy my framerate.
Might be because RT just sucked cuz it was new or my hardware sucked.
Few years later, with a 4090, and I love RT
Flying_Reinbeers
Gigantic performance hit, restrictive and pricy hardware choices, not many games really support it.
Yeah I think I’ll take better raster performance instead.
RiceFarmerRF
I want raw performance and VRAM over quirks which is why I’m team red

Give me a list of games which matches these requirements:
* has RT and it is noticable
* runs on like a 400€ GPU just fine (1080/60)
* isn’t potato looking or a pixel art game
* something recent, so a game released in the past 5 years or so
* doesn’t have Cyberpunk in it’s name
I’m genuinely interested, because if there isn’t really anything then I can probably ride out the next 5 years without a GPU upgrade.
Jason_Sasha_Acoiners
Okay, but can we all agree that Dead Island 2’s interior lighting is downright gorgeous despite having no ray tracing?
TheGreatSupport
I remember in one of the tech demo, they said RT is supposed to be a lighting simulation that help developers reduce time to create handmade light/reflection for their games.
Any_Yogurt9875
Fellas does any multiplayer game support rtx?
seklas1
Ray Tracing is incredible when it’s used well. Alan Wake 2 looks phenomenal with Ray Reconstruction. Many games, even old ones can greatly benefit from RT, because often what makes games look outdated isn’t graphics themselves, but shadows and lighting. Minecraft with RT look incredible.

I was going to say that ray tracing isn’t nothing special, Then started to really think about it… I never used ray tracing and still dislikes it… HOW?
