I believe the most recent update has changed how the S3R purple items can be upgraded. I believe you don't have to shoot the runes at the small triangle anymore. Just head to the spot where you line up the big triangle and offer the purple items.
I've read some posts on here that people can't find the "perform the summoning" locations. Use the pics to help line up where you need to stand for each one. Good luck

You also have to press the prompt to “begin the summoning” when the circle appears it will always be near the player who activated it. A side note don’t have your stash over 20 items or the game will eat 3 items in your rucksack took me a while to realize why one of the quest items kept vanishing.
