Not sure about BW1 but BW2 has a series of fan patches that MASSIVELY improve stability on modern equipment.

If anybody could show me a reliable guide to get this working on a modern PC I’d be super grateful. This was my favorite game as a kid but I’ve never been able to get it to work.
