we seriously need new bussines models and practices.
software versions should be owned. if needed make it so people have to pay for every update or whatever. but dont force people into new rules or versions like that.

The two hour refund should refresh every 2 hours

I’m convinced all I got from steam was an automated response, I wouldn’t even be so annoyed about not getting a refund if I was spoken to by an actual human.

I’ve never been denied a steam refund. Even well over 2 hours for legit reasons.

I mean it is breaking the contract or whatever you agree to at first anyway. It should be eligible for a refund because they can change it to anything they want. At least Steam is good at knowing the difference.

Assuming we’re talking about Steam, as I don’t think this is a general standard, I don’t really see the need for it. Steam support has proven itself to be amply sensible when it comes to actual transgressions with the Helldivers fiasco, and this could be really easily abused. If you want to streamline a policy like this, games could be made refundable if particular changes are made (e.g. intrusive software is added, etc).

You would see massive near-coordinated refunds from people taking advantage of the system even and especially years after the initial sale.
You would see articles being published about what EULAs are about to change on what games based on uncontrollable aspects such as laws updating.
Companies who have rightfully earned millions in sales would accrue large amounts of debt overnight due to these unforeseen legal circumstances and would have to shutter their doors.
Video game pricing would explode, only further exacerbating this doomsday scenario, and the inevitable death spiral of the entire model of selling us games in the first place.

Ignoring the whole refund aspect, they should allow us to launch our games in whatever version we choose (offline only ofc) .. we should be able to pick out of a list when launching the game, and select which version we want to play.
That way the update(s) aren’t forced upon everyone. We should be able to choose which version we want to play.

Honestly, I kinda just wish the refund period would be like 5 hours instead of 2

The EULA is a use clause, not a purchase agreement, but I do sympathize.
Digital games should’ve gotten cheaper with the flood of “digital content” since publishers don’t have to manufacture physical media anymore, but that’s not how the uhconamee works. Reduction in overhead means more profits, not affordability
No down, only up. Forever.
Just like automation was flaunted as a end to modern labor, but instead allowed us to labor more.
Every advancement is made, not to relieve our suffering, but to increase our endurance of it.

I dunno I think the current policy is reasonable even though in the back of my mind I wonder if someday my entire library will be gone due to some error or something. Because I don’t technically “own” what I buy. That another conversation however.

It’s already a blessing that we can refund games on Steam under 2 hours of play time. Digital purchases typically aren’t refundable.
FYI, this 2 hour thing is a Steam policy. Software’s return period ends when you unseal the disk or start downloading it.

10 years later they’d still be getting refunds.
Know what? Yeah.
