I did the new Dark Aether rift with my friend and we have both been stuck and confused on what this means. Dr Grey says "I carried you, I gave birth to you…" before stating that Samantha is her biological mother. Me and my friend have been trying to understand what this mean for the past hour but we still don't understand.

From what I’ve seen from others’ speculation; based on Ravenov saying he didn’t choose to be her father and that Requiem took genetic samples from all of them, Eddie (Director of Requiem in Cold War) created Ava in a test tube from Ravenov’s sperm and Samantha’s egg and implanted her in Grey. So she’s genetically Samantha and Ravenov’s child but Grey carried and birthed her.

Grey and possibly Ravenov and the other Requiem heads raised her until she was 3 after which Grey gave her up for adoption to the Jansens, because she was dying from Aetherium exposure. Ravenov was tasked with keeping an eye on her in case any extra-dimensional nonsense began.

The entity is a Dark Aether reflection of Ava created at her birth because Samantha (her genetic mother) was so heavily exposed to Aetherium while she was in the Aether in Firebase Z. It is influencing Ava and eroding the veil between its dimension and Ava’s to get to her, possibly to have control over her body.

Some loose ties; Why is Ravenov not dead? He was exposed to Aetherium, no? What is the Entity’s motive? I mean sure it wants to get to Ava but why? Just general malice? That’s a bit weak.

I guess the Aether corrupts therefore it could be considered evil but….why? But I suppose you could leverage that criticism at every iteration of the DA since BO3 so maybe I’m thinking too hard. Idk. But yea that seems to be the interpretation.

Revenov said they had many samples from the Requim heads so when Grey and Revnov must have done it and mostly maybe rechristen ordered what ever dna was left from Samantha to be out in the Greys womb while Jansen was in it… Or Miles Leslie (story director of Vangarbage and MWZ) forgot how pregnancy works
