Fallout 4’s ‘next gen’ update is over 14 gigs, breaks modded saves, and doesn’t seem to change much at all | PC Gamer

Wait till they release another 20 gigs update 6 months later to fix this

  2. Every update breaks mods. They never claimed to be changing anything. And the biggest reason for the update was to offer a performance mode on consoles while integrating CClub content.

The only problem I have with it is that CClub just doesn’t work. They did maintenance on the service for hours just for people to not be able to download anything from it. Bethesda really knows how to fumble the bag every time.

This update really only sounded exciting for console players due to set graphics settings. I’m surprised pc players were expecting big changes with bethesdas history.

Guys every update breaks mods. Why are we making something out of nothing? Not everything is some reason to get up in arms. Its a patch with some minor updates. Its 14 gigs because they had to overwrite those assets. Thats not abnormal for Bethesda games either. This is expected.

Also “”none of the minor bug fixes or added Creation Club content seem to justify the extent of the disruption from this update.”
What disruption? It was a nearly dead game. Modders are not Bethesdas employees. We are supposed to be upset they updated their game and people who have nothing to do with them were “disrupted?” Is this veiled reeing over the London project?

Stardew just got an update.. the entire modding community has to redo everything now. Same with Rimworld. This is the norm in moddable games.

  5. No.. Shit? it’s a graphics update for consoles and bug fixes?

Every update breaks mods, that shouldnt even be a headline

  6. Still crashes randomly if you have a GeForce 20xx or another RTX card, which is a known issue for many years now. And even if it doesn’t crash, the load times between areas is INSANLY long if you have a somewhat powerfull PC. But the worst about it is that nobody is suprised.

  7. Did people think this wasn’t going to break mods? Has there ever been an update to a Bethesda game that didn’t break mods?

  8. Logical-Elephant2247

I was reading patch notes and was wondering “is that it” lol, literally nothing has changed.

  9. Crazy_Canuck78

If I play again I was gonna start over from the beginning anyway.

This update is for a very specific demographic.

If you’re a vanilla player on console, go for the update. If you’re playing with mods you consider essential for your Fallout 4 experience and don’t think 60fps is worth sacrificing your mods, don’t update.

PC deff should not update, especially thise with modded playthroughs

Every 60 seconds a minute passes in Africa.

  12. Jakekostzoso

Anybody know if the 1440p setting on PC works?

  13. Roklobster1

Game runs amazingly on series X. I’m loving the update!

  14. Butterblonde

I just want to know if it still fucking crashes when I boot it up on PS5 with the expansions.

  15. Paratrooper101x

Are animations still tied to refresh rate

  16. Cipher-IX

    Wait.

Why wouldn’t it break modded saves? Are pc gamers under the impression it wouldn’t?

  17. VibyVibz

All it did was ruin the fallout London release date

  18. Ashton_Martin

All I care about is increased frame rate on console. I like many others started a new F4 campaign but the gameplay feels so dated it’s so hard to aim and fight, etc

  19. jaykzula

If I’m not mistaken it’s supposed to have better compatibility with dlc for ps5. Prior to the update I was unable to play the game with any dlc installed. The game would crash every time I tried to play it. I’ll be able to confirm that later tonight, in my case at least.

  20. HuskingENGR

As a console player, just hope it fixes every DLC asset skin back to normal from it being purple.

  21. ThisIsTheNewSleeve

I mean… almost every update breaks mods so we shouldn’t be acting like this is some big crime. People who mod like me just take this with the territory and accept it as a risk.

As far as what it changes, I wouldn’t know but it doesn’t sound like a lot except for some extra creation club content.

  22. drumrollplease95

Everybody excited because of the tv show, but this is the Bethesda we all know and love!

I finally got into my first Fallout game ever last week after hype from friends. I’ve always been a huge Elder Scrolls fan and loved Starfield too, so it was a no brainer that I would like Fallout too. I’m not sure why I didn’t think to try any sooner.

I have an ultrawide monitor so when I got into Fallout 4 I just downloaded a mod to fix the resolution. It’s the only mod I have and I was a little disappointed that it would disable my achievements. Hearing that their fix didn’t even scale the UI is…embarrassing lol. That’s such an obvious thing. I’ll be disabling auto-updates for sure.

  24. Relo_bate

What’s up with PC Gamer shitting on Bethesda every article

  25. KingkingKingkiller

I fucking ruined this game for myself with console commands and mods. I’m excited for a fresh experience

  26. I assume those shocked by mods breaking have never nodded a game before…

  27. ChefBillyGoat

Before this update I couldn’t play Fallout 4 with full DLC on my PS5. That was 100% what I expected it to change, and nothing else. Anything beyond that was a bonus for an almost 10 year old game.

  28. I don’t even use mods but even I know that updates, especially of this kind will “break” the mods. How’s this *news*?

  29. ParcialScar

It’s bonkers how people are still supporting bethesda after all the crap they’ve done and trashy release after trashy release since they finished morrowind.

  30. Sardonic-Skeptic

How about making a new fucking game for a change?

  31. ThePowerfulPaet

Still only getting 60 fps is a fucking joke.

  32. lonelyshurbird

Honestly I turned off my updates bc I knew the update would break my mods and I just started a new play through due to the show, and I wanted to enjoy my game.

  33. HotFix6682

Classic Bethesda. Create flawed games and rely on the mod community to make the games enjoyable and then fuck them down the road

  34. Reptar519

Oh cool, it wasn’t enough for Bethesda to do that with Skyrim and it’s creation club last december now they’re doing it with FO4. I don’t understand why they keep dropping these updates for single player games that have been out for a long time that seem to serve no other purpose other than fucking over games with mods installed. 4 years from now they’ll probably drop an update for Starfield that makes it unplayable for the all of 10 people still playing it.
