I don’t quite understand the reason behind it. If it is anything temperature related one could buy the less power hungry part.

  1. Not everyone has the money for a less power hungry part. People have computers who can’t afford a $25 part. I gifted a friend a GTX 980 and he had to significantly underclock it to get it to run on his 450w PSU until he could afford a new PSU.

I live in an apartment with crappy A/C in Arizona, in the summer with the A/C set to 76, it’ll still be 83 inside my apartment around 2PM-8PM. Add my 13700K and 7900 XTX on top of that… and I’m playing games at 1080p with Vsync on so my GPU is at like 20% load and barely using any power lol. I’ve tried undervolting, etc. but lowering the load on it is by far the most effective. October through about March is 4K season.

  3. Undervolting can reduce temps but only to a certain point, any more than that your either limited to limiting FPS, limiting clockspeed, or limiting power draw

At least once, it’s fun just to see how low it can go.

Living dat stock life over here! ♥

Look at the Steam Deck. 10w gets you like 95% the performance as stick (15w), with way less heat and less battery drain.

I have a VEGA64 GPU, it is basically a furnace at stock settings. Drop the voltage, drop the stock GPU clock slightly, and it’s suddenly manageable.

i don’t want my laptop sound like an jet engine but using a gaming laptop aleady made somedude on here want to sacrifice me to the pc god cuz the sin i has commit. So ye i underclocking my i5-11400h to make it only use like max 30w (stock 50w)

I Undervolted + Overclocked my GTX 1660, now it provides (almost) equivalent performance to a GTX 1660 Ti. The process was long and repetitive, but damn it was satisfying when I succeeded.

Yes. Most people don’t want to sacrifice performance however.

You could buy the less power hungry part sure, but I want this card.

Most of the times that’s people who worry about electricity bill. Can’t blame them.
