Power supply filled with dust bunnies watching you

A recommendation for the future while you had enough paste that it did not matter. It is always best to manually spread paste on a bare die. Just incase the squish doesn’t do it.

  4. Some 99% rubbing alcohol and a soft bristle tooth brush woulda got all that paste off of the board in between those smaller chips

Always nice to see a fellow 1070 enjoyer.

Im personally too scared to take mine apart, since its temps are still ok. God forbid I break something and get stuck buying a 40 series. Yuk.

Still that was good paste overall already applied

Impressive drop in peak temp. That will def prolong the life of the card.

You put WAY too much thermal paste for die that big. Even for a CPU, that’s WAY too much. So much of that will squeeze out from the heat sink and ooze onto the chip set.

  9. Did my 1070 a few months ago… Looked pretty similar to yours. Temps dropped ~2⁰ 🤷

Had to drill out a stripped screw to get the cooler off, loctite had completely frozen up the threads.

Crazy how it performs near identically even with the large change in operating temperature

damn thats a hell of a delta. not too familiar with the 1070s capabilities. but you probably could push it down even further with an undervolt.

I had a ROG Strix 1070 as well, and I repasted mine before trading it for a 5700xt -like 2 weeks ago-, and holy fuck, that card never went A SINGLE DEGREE above 55°c in the WORST POSSIBLE SCENARIO.

    What a chad card.
