You absolutely can find a cheaper version/color of that controller and just swap the guts. Or even a used one that works well. That assumes you want to keep that one instead of getting something new.

Just buy a new one and swap the internals. It’s pretty trivial though not sure if the new controllers are any different internally since I think this is a 2nd gen? Xbox One controller.

I’m still using my Xbox 360 controllers after hundreds of hours of Rocket League, platformers and other games. Is the build quality of these Xbox One controllers so much worse?

Keep the shell so you can throw it on another controller one day. I save all my shells. Makes for some fun “custom” controller color schemes, or preserving favourites. The only one I didn’t save was my limited edition halo controllers and I’ll never forgive myself.
