Just an fyi to all the gamers. The IGN game news site is serving up malicious ads and redirects. I noticed on mobile last night and notified them this morning. Response is they know and are working on it.
I did not extensively test.
Edit: here is the screenshot of one of the redirects.

I did test a little this afternoon and it appears to be mobile targeted. When I tried in Firefox it did not happen even with Adblock turned off.

It would be helpful if you could provide some evidence, such as a screenshot showing one of these “malicious ads” that is on display. If there’s a particular part of the page source code, etc, as well.
Ads that are displaying something you don’t like, or don’t think are legitimate, are still technically not malicious, they are just ads that you don’t want to see.
Otherwise, unfortunately this is just unfounded conjecture.
Common ad delivery platforms such as Google don’t support such a mechanism, so we are very curious to know more about what it is that you think you see.
Yeah I’m not believing this until you come back and say what “malicious” means.
If it’s just the usual clickbait headlines there’s nothing new about that. They’re everywhere.
Your first problem was going to IGN
I’d recommend everybody use Brave browser. It has Adblock built in and still blocks YouTube ads without any issue.
Literally just got some ridiculous redirect about 5 minutes ago.
wait…. people still visit ign for gaming news? huh….. she’s dead to me, your honor
Sigh. IGN. Their guide pages COULD be the best ever – they give the info they need and provide good screenshots to help you find things. But SWEET BABBY LIZARD GEEZUS, the ads the ads the ads. The loading time. The popups. The video that takes 1/3 of your screen on mobile and often doesn’t close no mater how many times you tap the damned X. AWFUL page to try and navigate. Absolutely ruined by modern capitalistic advertisement culture. Malicious ads and redirects seem like the natural evolution.
Yep, also got one on mobile a while ago that auto redirected without touching anything and immediately blocked them from my news feed
Why the fuck would anyone still be using IGN is beyond me that site has been trash since like 2011-2012
There’s good reasons the FBI encourages people to use adblockers.
Yep had the same thing happen to me when looking at a guide today. Thankfully I’m on IOS so I should be fine.
Always has been
if your not using firefox with ublock origin in 2024, your a moron
