1. Take an SSD that did not have coke spilled on it and test if it’s recognized at all; this will determine whether the drive is shot or the board is shot (game over)
2. If it’s just the SSD that’s shot, buy a new SSD and stop pouring coke on the laptop
3. If it’s the board that’s shot, you’ll either need a new laptop or something janky (like, a persistent live-boot USB or bootable external-SSD)

Do they have a protection plan with the laptop? That would cover accidental spills. If not they’re going to either have to remove the battery and open up the bottom to get a look to see if the spill is visible so they can clean it with ISO. That or take it to someone who is experience with repairing laptops so it can be disassembled and cleaned. Coke has sugar in it which can act as a conductor bridging points that are not supposed to be bridged and causing a short.

Get a straw and a razor blade and tap it all out onto the table and snort it up and you’ll be just fine…

SSD is dead, RIP data. hope he had a back up

Man, sorry but ever if you repair the laptop, it will be plagued with problems going on as the corrosion spreads.
I’ve a friend that two years ago did that and already repaired the motherboard, new battery, new keyboard, and now the trackpad is giving up.

* Spills dilute phosphoric acid on laptop *
“What to do now?”
If they have insurance cover for accidental damage, claim on that. Otherwise? Honestly? I’d try opening it up and cleaning it myself first.
If that’s a no go, then just have to suck it up and buy a new one. Corrosion will absolutely fuck up eletronics. Water is bad enough, but cola is acidic and is worse.

I will never have anything in common with people who leave open beverage containers within 2 feet of technology.
Right up there with people who leave their laptops and consoles on the floor, begging for someone to step on it and then I say “Told ya so.”

Watch a laptop breakdown tutorial before the chemicals corrode too much of the insides and get some alcohol wipes and clean it up.
That or use the provided manufacturer warranty and get a new one.

Wouldn’t have happened if he were a r/hydrohomie just saying 💦
Oops!
Instant karma for drinking that shit.
Yep it’s fried.
How does this happen with a powder? I don’t get it
This didn’t happen when I spilled. Dr. Pepper on mine. You’re laptop is thirsty for a proper drink 🥤 💪
And he thought it was an excellent idea to immediately boot it and check if it’s ok ? Great!
