They don't only steal your inventory but also somehow sell the info.
6k hours in RUST, 20yo steam account I got wiped (got no email of any changes to my account or any trade confirmations on my phone) my inventory was worth roughly 2k my steam name changed to numbers and I can't access it. Wrose part, the account now has bans and idk in what games because I am unable to access account.

I got api scammed once back in 2014 and since then i have a new account and i usually never trade any of my skins with anyone or login to any sites for gambling or opening cases,so im good
it happend to my brother a 2 month ago, luckly i got him back his account becouse of steam support.

How not to be scammed:
1. Don’t add people you don’t know
2. Don’t click on any links at all you don’t know or can’t clarify by others
2. Don’t login to dumb websites

Yeahh I almost fell victims for this too, I logged my steam account on the fake buff163.
Somehow and thank god the steam supports acted quickly and found the suspicion, someone trade lock my steam account until I confirm my identity (whoever that is a fuckin champ)
The hacker was from Czech in my case
Bullshit the small guys never get their shit back if you have a inventory that's worth 500 to 1k or so you can make all the tickets you want gg

This almost happend to me when logging into a "fake buff" on the steam browser. Quickly saw the sms for "removing my authenticator". I logged out of all devices and quickly changed my email and passwords.
This literally happened to my friend, he said one weekend while out partying his entire inventory including $$$ worth of investments traded to bots without a steam authentication notification or anything. Somone had logged in from Russia
So same steam sign in scam just that people thought QR was safe and ignored the red flag of steam randomly needing a sms code?

or just dont click on links scammers use and use the site they provide u have to a be so ignorant idk just my thoughts, i get messages everyday and it goes the same way they end up sending a link to a skin site off some sort i just reply to waste their time
a month ago i got a login noti from russia after logging onto a very real seeming buff. Instantly logged out of all sessions and changed password. Everything is still fine
Yeah that's why I sold my few nice skins (for a loss) and changed my profile to private, I'm done. Felt like I was being stalked by scammers and I didnt even have super expensive skins…

This has been going on for years now, got scammed like this long ago too
No click in AD sites (google) never use QR, change your api 1 a month, dont add random guys (select minimum lvl 20 and all steam acc and inventory public), dont click any link (even friend link), you can also copy the link and ispect in some ia sites who prevent fishing links or to see if link have virus on it, save your steam pass in a safe place, not your desktop xd, dont istall random game if ichio or some shit, just original games from steam or safe sites. Be safe guys.
And of course it all started by going to external webiste because of greed. 100% deserved, it really is not like it was not expected to happen, they laughed when they got warned now this is the result. It's just natural selection to me.

Anyone who uses steam a lot should be pre logged in and any site that asks you to login again raw without a prefill is a MASSIVE RED FLAG!!!
I have "Family Mode" and its just a code that blocks market, trades etc.
