I've seen some articles like this one suggesting high default PL1, PL2 settings could lead to game crashes. I have an MSI MAG Z790 Tomahawk, i9-14900KF, G.Skill Trident Z5 7600 32 GB and an MSI VENTUS 4080. I overclocked the video card GPU +150, RAM +1800 in Afterburner. I stress tested and played games like Alan Wake 2 on max settings for a few weeks and it seemed fine. I started having occasional game crashes, so I started reducing the video overclocks.
I then read about these power settings and set long and short duration power limits from the default 4096W to 125W and 253W, resp., and the current limit from the default 512A to 307A. I stress tested with CPU-Z and did see it drop from 5.6G to 4.6G after about a minute. Now I'll wait and see what happens in games.
Any general suggestions on the PL1, PL2 and max current settings?
Also, since changing these settings, I noticed my CPU is running at 5.6G while idle. What's up with that? I only changed PL1, PL2 and max current in the BIOS.
Help appreciated, thanks.
