Don't get me wrong I love origins it's in my top 10, however this one thing bars it from being the top 5. There's so many meaningless puzzles. I get a puzzle in zombies but origins really went all in on the 'Symbol translation' type of puzzle. I can only imagine how annoying this was to figure out at first but out of every CoD Zombies map ever, origins is the only one I still need a guide for because I'm not about to memorize how 12 symbols relate to 12 other symbols. I can do many Easter eggs after not having done them for months and months because the puzzles are actual puzzles and not just trial and error or Google it. I just feel that something like the Gorod valve step makes logical sense, but 'Oh the two vertical dots means the L shape' is so stupid to have as a step

The only thing that bothers me is that this counting system actually makes a lot of sense, but everyone puts them in the wrong order, so now it looks like it doesn’t make sense.
Okay so I actually know how to do this without a guide, and without simply memorizing them. The symbols with the dots can be interpreted as base-3 numbers, and the stick-like symbols can be interpreted as base-4 numbers. For the ice staff, convert the base-3 symbol to a decimal/base-10 number, then convert it to the base-4 number and symbol. For the fire staff you get to skip that second step.
I think a video guide would explain it better than me lol
The upgrade processes for Fire, Wind, and Ice staffs all use number bases. Fire uses base conversion from base-3 (ternary) to base-10 (decimal), Wind uses base-4 (quaternary), and Ice uses base conversion from base-3 to base-4. Then there’s the upgrade process for Lightning that uses piano notes. The following video and the videos linked in its description explain the upgrade processes properly: https://youtu.be/B6keZoRK50U
Edit: mistakenly said the first step of the Fire staff upgrade uses number bases, but actually it’s the 2nd step.
You don’t have to remember the lightning ones, when you turn them and they haven’t sparked for a few seconds you also know they are oriented good.
I knew the Lightning one because of my sheet music experience but that’s about it without a guide LOL
my fav part
MUCH more usable than my hand-written scribbles I made when I was 15 years old!
wind and lightning are easy to memorize imo, but fire and ice make no sense to me
I only need ice and fire wind and lightning are easy
I love origins so much. I have played it religiously for a while now. I know the entire easter egg front to back and back to front. I have probably completed the easter egg over 70 times.
The puzzles are so fucking redundant. the only steps that involve using zombies (and not just holding rounds if you’re not skilled enough to do them mid round) are the:
– fire staff crazy place step
– soul chests
– upgrading fists
– releasing samantha
the rest of the easter egg is literally running around.
the puzzles are pretty straightforward. even the fire church step isn’t bad once you realize there will always be an 11 or 4 in the pattern, so you only need to know what 3-4 symbols look like.
the only one that took me a while to get down was the ice puzzle. they seem like they’re not connected in any way, but I watched some video on it a couple years ago and was able to memorize based on that.
like I said, I love this map. I really only play bo2/bo1/WaW so origins feels like the most ‘complete’ map to me. but it has its flaws. the easter egg used to be so fun and now it’s a chore to do. I haven’t completed it in months because all the running around is flat out boring.
if you ever want to play it op let me know! I use pluto but do have steam copies as well
I have Wind, Lightning, and Fire pretty much fully memorized. I still need a guide for ice every time, despite it being my most used Staff.
