This one sentence is something that all games should do with content warnings

I think content warnings are perfectly acceptable and you can say this and still have a content warning.

A link/url would not work. Going back and playing Dino crisis, resident evil etc they’ve done it best: ‘this game contains scenes of explicit violence and gore’.

This is… a startlingly simple solution, actually. I kind of really love it.

“This is going to be pretty rough for some people, but we can’t tell you more without spoilers. If you think you are one of the people it might be rough for, we can give you the details as necessary, because it’s important for you to know if this game is going to cause you Real Harm instead of Fictional Spooks. But also, that is your call, and we trust your agency in this matter.”

Straightforward, effective, respectful, and gets a lot across without actually saying any of it. It could use a little tweaking from the website thing, possibly something like “go to this option in the menu to get the full list of warnings before you start the game,” but overall? Good notion.

Nah you need pics of the scared faces of previous victims/players of the game as well kinda like the warnings they put on cigarettes

  5. Peanuts_lover6969

Why do i have to go to their website for content warnings? Probably want to steal my personal data or something.

  6. Avalanc89

You mean that every big game that releases is total horror for players and also developers? And people that are sensitive to quality and bugs should avoid those?

  7. Zero_Anonymity

Someone else here had a good point, links aren’t going to last forever. That said!! There could be other solutions that preserves surprises while still making them accessible while needed.

For PC games you could have it as a file included in the main folder, or else do what you can for Consoles and have it be an option to access in the menu

  8. SouthtownZ

… please visit our website for examples of epileptic inducing images

  9. Cipher-IX

I don’t mind non-descript content warnings. Works well to combat the lack of common sense that applies to most people.

Given the number of game companies, and associated websites, that have gone out of business in the last 20 years maybe having the content warning be accessible in game would be a better option?

  11. Specialist_Squash722

Definitely on board with an accessible content warning. Maybe it pops up during initial setup, but can be revisited in settings. No spoilers, just safety.

  12. DMMEPANCAKES

I actually really like this solution, but I think it would be better if it was a “click to view list of trigger warnings” instead of links because down the line the site might not exist anymore.
