Sold my 6900xt for quite the profit and was left without a card. Decided my Strix 1080ti still had plenty of kick in it so I deshrouded it and am using it as a stand in until my next upgrade. And I must say, it has NOT disappointed! Thing still runs amazing:D

    1080ti have same power than the RTX 4060 but it uses 3 times more electricity. And no DLAA, DLSS or DLSS FG.

    I also still have my strix 1080ti but i admit my strix 4090 destroys my 1080ti. But have fun man. It is still the king of videocards 😇

    Just gonna say that your fan setup isn’t optimal. You have more exhausts than intakes, that creates negative pressure which basically sucks dust through every little gap of your case. I’d suggest to turn around the three fans to the right of the mainboard. That way you have 6 intakes and 4 exhaust fans which creates positive pressure, therefore it’s hard for dust to get in. Awesome looking build though and love the old GPUs!

    I’d bet that either Navi 48 or something from Blackwell will be a great upgrade later this year.
    Although I think odds are Navi 48 will perform somewhere between a 7900gre and 7900xt, so it won’t be an absurd upgrade over the 6900xt you had.

    But it’ll probably be a lot cheaper so selling that 6900xt for a profit was totally the call lol

    I, up until recently, still used a 1080. I could still play any game I threw at it. But obviously I had to drop the detail and deal with sub 60fps in modern games. Stutter sometimes but mostly a playable experience that was showing its age. A 1080Ti absolutely will work just fine as a stand in card these days. But you just have to measure your expectations.

    I basically did the same thing as OP and built a new system without changing my graphics card 5 years ago. Sometimes you gotta make sacrifices to get the style you want. Sure it’s not at all functional, but that’s really not the point.

    The 1080Ti is awesome, I have a Titan V, which was made in the same generation as Pascal, but using the Volta Architecture and it surpasses the 2080Ti / 3070Ti in performance.

    The 1080Ti even in 2024, 6 years post-release is also still awesome and able to push out 1440p 60-100fps at High-Ultra Settings. 11GB of VRAM too, and raw performance which sits equal to the 3060Ti / 2080S.

    My power supply died a few weeks ago the day my friends and I were supposed to game. Naturally I grabbed my old PC from storage and the 1070 in it held up surprisingly well. It was able to play Helldivers well enough to forget I was using the old PC after awhile. The 6th gen i5 definitely didn’t hold up though, even though I have gigabit Internet it took like 3 hours to download helldivers
