I did very much the same. Cleaned up all of Watson before even meeting with Evelyn Parker. After the Heist, I did do the Voodoo Boys main questline first to open up Dogtown, but then did all the NCPD hustles, gigs and side missions before doing anything else. It’s a valid way to play, just takes a ton of time, especially if you do a lot of car thefts for El Capitan as well.
Few weeks ago I talked with a guy who also played cyberpunk, we were casually chatting when I told him I spent 200+ hours on the game and didn’t finish my first playthrough. He looked at me with big round eyes and I’m starting to realise that’s I’m actually really slow. ( I’m doing every single side jobs before finishing the game)
I just always follow the order someone posted on here years ago which tells you which section to go to in order of character progression.

Whats your build? ‘m going for a Shinobi/ninja/pistol assasin with trowable knife. Currently doing the same thing, kinda. Got some Main Jobs left but I want to dive in NC and get the best silenced pistol/weapon for my build, should I just farm it or upgrade or … ?
This is usually how I play open world games. Clear as much side content as I can before progressing the story. I like a clean map.

If you didn’t do the ncpd ones yet then you aren’t even close. Those take a large amount of time so I suggest hitting them as you move towards quest locations. With the airdash double jump it’s easy as hell to knock a few of them off in route to whatever your doing.
i first played cyberpunk with only the main missions not realising it gave a shit ending. when i understood how deep this game is i started playing like you and enjoyed it even more
That… might be a mistake. I’m a completionist as well, and I noticed that some of the side quests don’t seem to trigger unless you’re doing other stuff on the side. I might be wrong on that, but that’s just been my impression. I do recall, during my first playthrough, that I did exactly the same thing and then never got to see any of Kerry’s quests beyond getting the band together.
It does kinda hit differently, though, when you go meet Dex Deshawn and you’re level 50, with 50 street cred. Like, bitch? Seriously? I could snap you and your muscle in half just by blinking at you the wrong way.
The only reason this is an insane way to play is because a lot of the story and side missions ask you to wait a day if not days before the story picks up.

I’m at 280 hours and still haven’t completed the campaign. I complete every possible side gig and side mission before going to the current story mission to where it’s the only mission available. I’m about %60 on phantom liberty and I’m already at the OPP5N main mission for the main campaign. I noticed under a bridge there were big neon letters that spelt out
“Eat the Rich” and each letter was stolen from signs across Night City and you can clearly see which letter goes to where if you pay attention.
I find it more immersive to do it randomly. Let the fixers and other side quests guide me through the map. The other approach is too mechanical for my taste and not how you’d do it if you were actually there, on the ground.
I always wonder how bottomless that cup of coffee is, after leaving him sitting there at the diner for literal in-game and real-world weeks.
Its ok, but you cant really enjoy weapons unlocked by story ;(
I’m surprised you’re only at lv 48 though. Do you have Phantom Liberty?
I’m working on getting all the achievements. I think I have over 200 jobs / gigs completed. I still have plenty of NCPD Scanner Hustles to do.
Eventually I will try the female V when I need to start a new game. But as soon as the Elden Ring DLC comes out I will drop everything for that.

I wish I had done all the side gigs first, just for roleplay. it doesn’t really make sense that V would be doing all this important shit and then decides to take a ton of low level gigs while >!they’re dying!<
Did the same first time around, i just hate random icons on the map so i need to clear all of them. This was on first release with an op netrunner build though so i cleared the whole game with all the side missions and scanners in abt 80 hours. The main story really isn’t that long tbh.

I do the same but I often regret it as you end up getting some pretty cool weapons and abilities near the end of the game and if you’ve cleaned out the map then there isn’t very many ways to properly use such things and get the most out of them.
Lately I’ve just stuck to cleaning out the north side of the map until I’m at a decent immortal level stage of my character and then the rest of the map I just do casually, at my leisure, to make the most out of stuff.
I mean it’s not wrong.
Personally, I like to do a story mission, followed by a few side gigs, and then another story mission.
Kinda like a TV show
I always consider beating the game’s story as 100% even though it’s not.
Therefore, I try to knock out as much side activities as possible prior to wrapping up the story. Once I get bored enough, I move onto wrapping up the game. I’m still no where near done with side activities. I keep getting distracted by the combat so I just go on fighting sprees with cops or OW just look around for beef to start.
Sometimes Ill get distracted by the driving and start running cars over or just hijacking, explosion, get a new one, rinse repeat.
Other times ill get distracted by the graphics and just go tweak my settings to turn DLSS back off then back on just because.
Overall, yup, still on the game.
Clearing the map plus side missions before doing main missions is the only way I like to play open world games
I tried this once just to see how much you can do before technically starting the second act. If I recall, you can do all but two cyber psycho encounters. Most gigs, but only a handful of Dogtown gigs.
I also continued doing every single thing I could do before each story mission. What I learned is that you have to complete all three main story lines (not including B-story stuff) before you can start Phantom Liberty. And I think you cannot meet Hanako at Embers for the same reason. So, you do all three parts of Tapeworm no matter what, and get your dog tags from Johnny before you can do any ending.
This helped me realize that the second act has two parts, not one. Any building of personal relationships is really the B-story content that normally occurs during the second half of a second act.
Phantom Liberty is also probably the Doomed Plan that normally occurs in the second half of the second act as well.
Meat stuff to learn!
Only issue I see with it is that you are going to breeze through every other part of the game now. But that’s how I usually end up playing these a lot too so if you’re like me you won’t mind too much
I got every achievement awhile ago and the ncpd scanner hustles had me so fucking bored because i decided to do them all at once.
The only thing worse than that was running around in AC Valhalla finding and killing all the order members to get Mjolnir. Barely worth it
I’m doing the same thing. Once I got ol’ Johnny Silvernuts in my brain, I stopped doing the storyline and started clearing out all the side stuff. I do that with the Just Cause games as well. I liberate all the camps before starting the story.
