Netgear Armor is a subscription service. It’s also unnecessary.
Disabling the armor feature does not keep a person from utilizing their router.

It’s probably some basic malfunction or in need of a firmware update. Or else he did something to it himself. From my experience working in tech support type jobs, he probably reset it and wiped out whatever was making it work. Probably a static IP.

A static IP would be assigned by the ISP. This doesn’t make sense to me.
I don’t believe this, he didn’t share any details and no one has ever heard of it. How could netgear even block a static IP versus a dynamic one? They can easily block both if they didn’t want you to use the internet. Also this dudes body language is like the biggest red flag I’ve ever seen, lol.

I just bought an AX1800 today and during the setup there was no requirement to pay for any ‘subscription’ to anything at all, if there was I would have boxed it back up and returned it tomorrow and bought something else in it’s place. Violently opposed to ‘subscriptions’ for everything.
I *do* have to get them to ‘opt’ me ‘out’ of their data collection bullshit though. They don’t need to know what I’m using it for and where I’m going on the internet.

This dude doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I had a Nighthawk X6, still worked fine even after the free trial to Netgear Armor expired. He probably didn’t even talk to a support rep from Netgear. They often make it impossible to find a support number, if they even have one, and the numbers you find on google are 3rd party/scams. Any cable based ISP is going to automatically have a DHCP WAN address for residential service. Only business plans have static addresses, not that changing the address would make a difference. The router or modem probably just needed to be rebooted.

I assume the subscription is for some security feed into a built in firewall. It’s fairly common to have threat intel feeds as a paid for service. It should be possible to disable this and just have basic router functionality if this isn’t something you want.
Why not just flash it to a custom firmware? It’s actually better that way.
