Been building computers since the early 90s. This is what my main desktop looks like today. The case is a Cooler Master from 2011 and has housed the following:

i5-2500k with a GTX 560 TI and later a RX-570

i7-8700k with a GTX 1080

and currently a Ryzen 7 5800X with an RTX 4070

It used to look better and have decent cable management, but I lost interest along the way since it just sits under a desk. It has been through a lot and it survived when I spilled half a liter of water right into the CPU fan, which sprayed everywhere. (Sidenote, I also spilled a can of coke on my keyboard once, I put it in the bathtub and soaked it in water to clean it all out. It still works perfectly!)

I use this computer pretty much every day. I mostly play indie games these days and am currently playing Fantasy Survivors. I mainly use the computer for development, tinkering with all sorts of stuff that I find interesting at the moment, I've tried all the different AI stuff, and I like to try different development languages, frameworks and tools.

100%, we need to normalize this. Not all CPUs are super models and they don’t need to be.

EDIT: It was earlier and I hadn’t had my caffeine yet. CPUs was supposed to be builds but whatever.

This makes me feel so much better about my squirrel nest

Be a proper champion and clean off the dust. Mine looks similar (except for cable management), still using my case from 2015. I make a point of having all upgrades fit into that thing so my wife won’t ask questions lol.

Absolutely love it! But the cables😭

it’s only the dust i care most about. cables can be all over the place but i can’t let it get too dusty

Back when I was piecing systems together and making small incremental upgrades, mine looked like this or worse. Since the last 3 builds where they were mostly built higher and meant to last, I cleaned up the wires. Current one I added some RGB, I don’t think I’ll ever do more than a few because that’s my preference.

The most important part though is to enjoy using the system. Which is why I used to comment about cutting out RGB and white to invest in better components. I realized that was a losing battle and was responded to with hate. Let them waste money on bling now.

Lmao you got the same CPU cooler as me

See the issue is that I have OCD and couldn’t stand looking at my rats nest. Cable management ended up lookin like that Homer with his fat behind his back lol

Hands-down my favorite utilitarian case. I still run my rig in the one I bought over a decade ago.

For the record, OP: The other panel is also removable; that’s where you’re supposed to route your cables.

we should normalize non managed-cables builds bc not every case should have a window

  11. Csakstar

You don’t need to have the fanciest case or best components but you can at least try and cable manage/dust

Now that’s a pure performance PC build 😉

I wish this PSU basement thing was removable without going destructive. We’re kind of going from aiding cable routing to forcing the user’s hand. Thank goodness they had to leave a little open area for radiator setups. In a previous iteration of this build I wound up routing even more cables through there, but some changes have simplified things later on.
