Depends on the GPU. On old cards it disable idle core voltage but didn’t disable idle clocks(this was helpful for working around certain power management bugs). On modern GPUs it usually does nothing.

it can help with stability, if for example, it instantly jumps to a low gpu intensive task the voltage may drop then instantly going back into an intensive situation it may not recover voltage quick enough, leading to a crash, that being said, i havent needed to use this since before my 980sli days so i doubt you will need this feature in anything now days unless maybe ln2 overclocking or using old gpus for fun
