Back in the late 90s/early 2000s I never bothered to get antivirus software and would just reinstall Windows whenever the computer started acting strange or slowing down.

If you wanna spot check something, download malware bytes, run scan, uninstall.

Windows Defender and a good content filter like Cisco Umbrella or others such as the ones built into enterprise firewalls and you’ll be good. Haven’t had a virus on a personal device or a clients device in over 15 years.
