I swapped cases and noticed the rear io of my gpu is turning a bunch of really weird colors but it never gets very hot, it rarely even goes near like 70 degrees. All of the other pieces of metal on the card looked fine. Has anyone else ever seen this? Should I be concerned?

Clean that thing before you put it back.

I don’t know much about what happened but it looks like what you get when you put a blowtorch on metal. May not be internal hot but you may have a shortage causing a spark. Don’t panic off my response. I say unscrew that back plate and see if anything touching that shouldn’t be.

Your gpu may not be getting hot, but the shroud sure af is. Seems like a case short, but also bait so idk?

Plug it all back in and touch your case barefoot?

  4. It’s fine, it has nothing to do with heat, or shorts, but more to do with chemistry.

Oils and other chemicals can react differently with metals, sometimes you get something like yours, and others is just a normal smudge.

That’s oxidation from heat. Must be some cheap alloy. If your card is running at good temps its nothing to be concerned about.

That bracket looks a bit like a cheese grater or is it just me?

  9. Wow. I’ve ran GPUs to within inches of their lives before and I’ve never had that happen.

Best I can tell you is that it’s probably galvanically accelerated, meaning your PC has a grounding fault.

Look at the amount of dust underneath it. Take off the fans, heatsink and clean/repaste.

  11. Holy shit I just cleaned my PC last night and found the exact same thing, it’s an Asus Strix 1080ti, I’ve had it since 2016 iirc.

Workshop here. We are about 5 minutes from the ocean. We see that kind of thing all the time not sure if related to ocean (salty air) or humidity but its common and nothing to worry about.

People pay good money for this kind of look on their Honda exhaust tips lol

It’s a camo that you unlocked for your gpu like with the guns in call of duty.

I got this in for return once, turned out the owner was literally washing the back of their PC, like heavily soapy water and rags. Their warranty was suspended immediately.

I wouldnt be. If it got that hot it would smoke, also those plastic plugs would evaporate at required temps.
