Ok, so my original post obviously didn’t go over well because I didn’t include a visual reference. The style is from a game called Breath of Fire 4, and I don’t honestly have an actual name for the style. I do remember a few games from the era using a similar style. THIS is my preferred non 3D/realistic style.
I would have included more pics, but Reddit won’t let me. I’ll include a video in a separate comment.

Here’s a brief gameplay [video.](https://youtu.be/hF40Ltscl7s?si=8cseD2eOXtoCcT14)
Isometric 3D I think is the name of the style. I think pixel games will always have their place, but I bet this is going to be a retro style that makes a comeback. Could be great to have some RPG experiences in this style, but with refined and modern gameplay mechanics
Breath of Fire is such a great series. Also, can we just bring back turn-based battles? I’m so tired of modern rpgs using action/real-time.
Thought this was runescape dragon slayer 2 boss fight
Breath of Fire 4 had the most beautiful sprites.
I sunk so many hours playing this game. Especially the fishing. I couldn’t get it right.
Reminds me of Skies of Arcadia which I miss
Breath of Fire always had very good pixel art. The implementation of 3D in BOF 3 and 4 was very well done and fairly unique for its time.
Too bad Capcom is committing to bringing every dragon-based game to market except BoF.
These are ok I guess. Four definitely looks nice but they’re nothing special 🤷🏽♂️
The camera around the cities in 4 is really hard to handle in modern day. Sprite work is solid and story seemed good, but navigating the world is a bust for me now
Personnaly, seeing your visual made me think about the disgaea series, which i looooove
Pfft, visuals, pfft. You wanna talk old-school? It’s all about the imagination, baby! We didn’t need no stinkin’ pictures or videos back in the day. We had our minds and our controllers, and that was enough. Sure, maybe your post didn’t take off, but that’s just because people today are too used to hand-holding. Give ’em a text prompt and let ’em run wild! Now that’s gaming! #BringBackTheGoodOldDays #TextAdventures4Life
