These where used for the USB front panel connectors back in the day, these are the real pain in the ass. Barely any slack to put them in without others just straight up disconnecting. Plus no motherboard labeling either. Then it was manual time.

I’m glad these fuckers went away. Same with the AC97 audio in the same individual format.
Once boards settled on a standardised layout, I used to just superglue these together in the right order.
Didn’t need to be labeled on the motherboard because pinouts for USB is all the same.
I miss those. Fucking 2000’s were epic. Every 10/12 year old kid got a masters degree on building setups lol no youtube no tutorials

I used to work for a MSP in the early aughts. We built hundreds of whitebox PCs with these individual USB pins. I was so happy my last case had 4 pin USB headers.
I still have plenty pc cases with similar seperatee pins.

I complained about them then and I’ll complain about them now.
I just put a zip-tie around them once in place and then they don’t get out of arrangement. Glad there are less connectors now a days!!
One of the best motherboards I had back in the day (can’t recall the brand, used orange and black pcb), came with a little adapter so you could hook all the cables into that and just plug it into the board….genius
My motherboard has two front I/O pinouts (was meant for server rack) and nontraditional pinouts. Huge pain in the ass looking at asus online manual
Most here are thinking of the LED/HDD reset power switch etc, we still use today. They can be a bit of a pain, but these were different.
In the early 2000’s, your manual may or may not have had a diagram, pin conifg may or may not have been familiar, and if you were new to building it was a power on-power off/ painful process of elimination to learn and get it straightened out.
