I bought a 4080s for my i9-9900k older PC. I stopped gaming for a year and it's the build I have. Not like I'm gonna go buy a 2080 to pair with it.

I bought a 4090 to see what difference if any there is because I work hard and saved. My intention was to return the 4080s and build a new PC with the 4090 but in the meantime use the 4090 with my current build. Simple, right?

Well, now I'm feeling pressure because the next ,new Intel chipset will be a new socket and the 5090s will all be coming at the end of the year. I can't upgrade my CPU if I go i9-14900 now.

I got three options.

1: Return 4090 and run what I brung for a year. New build this time next year.

2: Return 4080s keep 4090 and do a new build over the next few months with a i9-14900. And cry in December when everything gets replaced.

3: Keep 4090, use current build and wait till i9-15900 comes out and build on that. "Possibly sell 4090 to get 5090" but it will probably sell for a third what I payed.

4: Buy a PS5 and live happily in ignorance 🙂

What would you do?

Hello bOObies2x, and thank you for your submission to Gaming PC! If you are new please check out our rules over at the wiki [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/gamingpc/wiki/rules)!
We have recently added the useful feature of Title Flair! You can set this manually by clicking Flair under your post once you have submitted your post, but if you missed it in the rules there is a much better way that will automatically flair your post!

To do this simply add what your post is about in brackets before your title. For example for a Build Log you can type [Build Log] before your post so that it looks like this; [Build Log]My new awesome build!, and the bot will automatically set your flair to Build Log! This works for Build Log, Build Showcase, News, Hardware News, Hardware Release, Discussion, and Miscellaneous!

Also remember that this is a place for discussing and sharing our love of Gaming Computers! This is NOT the place for help building or determining what parts you should buy, that is better suited for /r/buildapc. Troubleshooting questions should be directed to /r/techsupport. Thank you again!

If you only want the upgrade for gamming then would say just wait it out, i dont have your set up or your preferences. But I’m pretty sure there is no game at this moment that needs a 4080 and 4090, that cant be played on your current system. By the time you know it a year would have come and gone. Plus there might something with an even better price to performance in the 50 series that isnt a 90 class gpu. And even if you dont like the 50 series, you can always still buy a 40 series gpu for cheaper.

Return the 4090 since it prob isn’t making that much of a diff from your 4080s.

Buy a PS5 to play their first party titles. Especially if you didn’t have a PS4, you’re missing out on a lot.

Start saving for Intel 15 series and Nvidia 5000 series or even skip the 5000 series altogether and use that 4080s with a Intel 15 series until the 6000 series comes out.

    That’s just what I’d do

Never wait for upgrades because the next thing is always just around the corner. You’ll be waiting forever. Get a 14900K now, if 15th gen comes out, that doesn’t mean the 14900 will suddenly stop working. It will serve you for a long time.
