If you play newer titles at 1080p, isn’t 8GB enough?

It’s not just the 8GB VRAM that’s a problem. It’s the chopped down 128-bit bus. On a xx50 card or laptop GPU that might be okay. But a xx60 or xx60 Ti will usually have a 192-bit or 256-bit bus. You’re getting less VRAM than the previous 60 card and a narrower memory bus. It feels like a regression from the 12GB 192-bit 3060, at least in terms of the memory subsystem.
Memory is very cheap at the moment. There’s no reason other than greed that Nvidia, currently one of the richest companies in the world valued at over two trillion US dollars, needs to be this stingy with memory. They could have given us a 12GB/192-bit or 16GB/256-bit 60 card and not been hurt by it. Nvidia 60 cards are what most people ultimately buy, so the 4060 being so gimped is holding back PC gaming.
I really hope they reconsider the direction they’ve gone in with the upcoming 50 series.

I have a Nvidia RTX 4070 in my laptop, I didn’t know it is only 8GB (playing in 1440p on ultra wide monitor). Which is same as my GTX 1070.

I play PCVR and have been playing Helldivers 2 on high and ultra with my 3070ti. It maxes it out, but it plays everything I throw at it. I do plan on upgrading eventually, but 8GB of VRAM isn’t this terrible thing like people make it out to be.
I mean I’ve been playing the resident evil remakes on VR on mostly high settings and my 3070ti eats them up.
