Heya guys, I recently got a PC that's from around 2006, I feel like I should change the gpu, but the problem is the gpu is kinda weird and i cant figure out what kind it needs, google has been no help, and neither has my buddy that knows more about computers than i do, the gpu slot is tiny, the gpu is a nvidia geforce 6200, I just want it to be able to run roblox, heres the best pic i could get of the gpu slot without taking out the gpu (im too scared to do it cause it finally works) (250ml glass fanta bottle for size comparison)

It looks like you have PCIe, so forget AGP. Plus, all AGP cards won’t be able to run Roblox due to DirectX9, which Roblox doesn’t support anymore.
You need at least DX10.1 to run. Also make sure your CPU is up to spec. Again, don’t expect the best.
The GPU is in an AGP slot despite the fact the motherboard has PCIe slots. It must be from the transition period from AGP to PCIe.
Your best bet would really be to find something PCIe based instead but that will depend on what the motherboard is capable of. What’s the motherboard brand and model number?
You should also realize that given the age of the motherboard, there are limits on how far you can upgrade it in practice, that installing a significantly newer GPU won’t completely turn the machine around.
It is not worth spending a dollar on a PC from 18 years ago. It is 100% useless without a doubt.
You can get very very cheap RX 480/580s second hand. Would be a great pairing for this
I really wouldn’t spend for than 70-80$ on a GPU for this computer.
Wow. Dude, I have better than that sat in boxes because it’s not worth building.
Pick up the cheapest, crappiest, thing Ali Express can sell you. There some old 2012-2014 era video cards on there around the £$€10-20 mark. Fuck, if you’re local to me in the UK, I’ll *give you* a Radeon HD 5450. Maybe throw in an Opteron 165 so you can upgrade the CPU too.
The maximum memory for that era was around 4 GB, though most systems wouldn’t go past 2 GB. It is long past its point of relevancy!
Fanta for scale 😭
That mobo is a classic and well known with a certain type of collector because it has both PCI-E 16x and AGP 8X. A very rare combination.
If you want to play Roblox you should gut the PC and sell the mobo to a collector or someone who is looking to build a Windows XP box and buy something else for the money.
I’d say if it has a dual core installed I’d say you could get $50 for the combo on ebay, that’s enought to get a 4th Gen Intel core i5 with some H81 motherboard.
Wouldn’t call this useless. There are plenty of companies needing these old legacy components.. but man.. don’t game on this thing. I would honestly just say buy a ps5 at that point.
I kinda like the blue/red contrast
Ancient pc needs a better PC
AGP port card. This post makes me feel old.
Your Fanta is yellow. I have no respect for you.
I know it looks cool, but that is NOT playing any games…
The CPU is a bottleneck bigger than anything u can ever imagine, especially for Roblox.
You’ll be lucky if you had a RTX 4090 with it and got more than 5fps on any game.
The GPU is likely not a bottleneck, and you should REALLY not try to upgrade this machine.
Optiplexes can be obtained for cheaper and will perform a lot better, even with integrated graphics than this could…
Only thing this baby is gonna be useful for is retro gaming for Windows xp, 98se and dos.
Some Windows 9x games can be super hard to run on modern hardware and modern windows.
Is it still on it’s original PSU from 2006?
Electrolytic capacitors can “dry out” over prolonged periods of time.
It may still work now, but I wouldn’t trust it, and certainly wouldn’t spend money on it.
Ive been collecting old pcs to play games for years but after finding retroarch has a dos core I just have every version of windows starting from 3.1 up to 98 and a slew of other computers amiga and TempleOS as desktop shortcuts and have a few Vms of xp to trouble shoot things Jesus your better Off using a VM on a modernish pc.
I have a Geforce 9800 GT eco 1GB lying around that might be a nice fit. Does not need external power and fits that PCIe slot nicely. Itll also be quite a bit more powerful. Depending what shipping is and what youre willing to pay I might be inclined to give it a better home.
Can’t just buy a new GPU…you will bottle neck! It will need new CPU, GPU, about 16gb ram..and with all that you’ll need a new mother board and psu! Best to just get a new pc! Lol
Putting any modern GPU in that thing with severely bottleneck it and you really won’t get any performance out of it.
Get rid of it. Get a $200 laptop.
You could keep the case and build a nice cheap sleeper.
