Why does it say “box”? Also says shipped and sold by Amazon US. I sure do hope I dont get an empty box.

It’s absolutely a scam. You will receive a box.

  2. It means its a boxed processor, not a tray one.

It’s sold by Amazon directly, so you have no worries about dodgy American, Chinese, or pseudo-Russian Eastern European scammers.

It says it’s sold by Amazon, not a 3rd party. You should be fine. It says box as it’s a boxed retail product and not an OEM chip.

Why not go 5800x3d more future proof 👍🏻

  5. Devilishdozer

If you’re in the US and have a microcenter nearby definitely check there first, just checked and 5700x3d is going for $240

it means its a retail box version (with cool looking package and a cooler)

as opposed to an OEM version, which only comes with CPU tray and no cooler

    both contain CPU obviously

I’m willing to bet you’re good to go since it’s “sold and shipped” by Amazon.

‘Box’ as in ‘retail’, as opposed to ‘OEM’ (or similar), as in ‘some company bought a metric assload of them for OEM system builds and they don’t need or want the extra expense of consumer-grade packaging’.

  9. Wouldn’t risk it. Usually it’s boxed, so could be a typo.

Unless the box itself has a wattage of 65 watts, you are good.

Shipped and sold by Amazon, your fine.
But typically yes it usually would mean only the box

So you’re ordering a cpu, not just a box.

That being said, Amazon’s policy for mingling 3rd party seller inventory and their own inventory at the warehouse means you might get a unit that a third party seller provided, because they take all of an item regardless how they got it, and store it together.

Should say Amazon.com. This is probably a scam

It is “Boxed” version for box collectors. Just get a tray version , must be wayyy cheaper.. Once it is in place, cpu box is nothing but a place-occupying trash 🙂

Since this is sold by Amazon I am betting it’s saying that it’s in a retail box as others are suggesting. I reporting a problem with this listing to Amazon about this so hopefully they respond and actually fix it.

From what I have seen at other sources in Singapore this is probably a pretty good price. It’s not much more than you would pay for the same processor in the US. Products bought on Amazon SG from Amazon US always seem to have extra cost which probably cover import tax/shipping (“free” shipping indeed).

I’d say buy it. You can still return it if there is a problem with it. I’ve returned products to Amazon SG without an issue in the past.

If you have a micro center nearby it’s about $40 cheaper – bought this yesterday

You can get the 5800x3d for $309 on Amazon. Why not go with that???
