I’m surprised that thing even turns on. That wasn’t even a good processor when it was made, so I can’t imagine what it’s like 13 years later.
Dude that computer has a Sandy Bridge cpu in it. That thing is positively ancient tech. I thought my company was cheap…

Put more RAM in it? Looks like it already running mismatched sticks, I’d guess 8GB+ 2GB (possibly 8GB + 4GB with shared video RAM which would not be helping matters)
SATA SSDs are dirt cheap. Put one in as a boot drive and it should make it snappier.
How the hell does it have 10 gb of RAM. Did it originally have 8 gb and they magic’ed up a 2 gb stick? That CPU is from 2011. What are they comparing age to, some Apple 2 in the closet? Your school’s IT sounds useless.
These so called IT guys have a really reputation in my opinion for cheaping out on stuff like these, even for presentations, and stuff I don’t think this COU would be enough, it’s 2nd gen and i3 at that, the latest release is the 14th gen, you are 12 generations behind, even a 7th i5 would be league ahead of this CPU

Not that old lol. That’s a 12 year old CPU. Hence the first digit being a 2 after the i3
i3-2120. Brrr. I hate that thing.
My work PC had that CPU in 2015, it was already old then and I used the damn thing until 2019.

2nd Gen Intel CPU should have graduated by now, but sadly for it, it is stuck in school.

Swap in an SSD and 16GB RAM then it’ll be good to go.
I’d email them back with links showing them on the Intel ARC site when this obsolete CPU was discontinued and then ask them to tell me again that it “wasn’t that old”.
If you’re in the American public education system, their tech people don’t consider that to be old. Most districts just bought chrome books and considered themselves “caught up”.

all it really needs is an SSD, an SSD is like an LS Swap, its small, and it works well, and speeds up literally anything, well maybe not an atom laptop
As others have noted, installing an SSD would make a tangible difference in the type of tasks you’re asking this PC to do.
Well, second generation i3 thats like 12 years old and wekest of the bunch, yea, i7 could pass with enough ram.
That’s sad, my university just got all brand new 13th gen i5 Dell Optiplexes to replace the 7th gen i3 ones, and even those were bad. I can’t imagine how this obsolete computer runs anything modern lol.
There is always the unethical way of pulling a random chip off the motherboard so that it doesn’t boot, and they get you a new computer. Cue that scene from The Office when Andy wants a new computer

i mean, for things you have listed its quite sufficient no? maybe the hard drive is the bottleneck not the ram
Upgrading the storage to solid state drive is basically the best upgrade when it comes to old hardware. SATA SSD’s are dirt cheap these days and can make the system very responsive. Putting more RAM might help, but it is useless if the hard drive is dragging the entire system down. Also, I am pretty sure they can add i7-2600 or 2700k in there just to make the system more responsive, especially with browsing multiple tabs at the same time.

Is that after that major ram boost or before?
I’m pretty sure Leonardo Davinci used to play Ye Olde Halo with a similar build.
